What's the verdict on Wlad's holding?

Yeah, he won, he's a skilful boxer (though somewhat overrated in that department, wouldn't you say?) and Peter only won three rounds (according to the judges) or two (according to me).

However... what do we make of Wlad's holding? It was a pattern... he'd hit then hold. Pretty much all night.

I had no problem when they got tangled and it turned into a hold. Or when he was cornered and Peter was in his face, that was... okay.

The worst times were those when Peter was in front of him not even throwing anything and you could see Wlad thinking "I'd better hit him now... nah, **** it, I'll hold." This happened at least twice, where Wlad initiated a holding manoevre when there wasn't even any reason to do so.

It did seem to pick up in the second half - I think Wlad needed to block a few and get knocked down and get back up to get his confidence in gear, but I still believe it was too much.

It's a poll, basically. No flames, no "Wlad hater" nonsense, let's just have a poll on it. Oh, as for the "he should have been warned" entry - yeah, I know he WAS warned, but it took eleven rounds before it happened.

Yes, in the extreme - he should have been DQed

Yes, quite a lot - he should have had points taken off

A little - he should have been warned

A little, but nothing outside the rules or decent sportsmanship

No, not at all - it was fine

I think it reminded my of Lennox Lewis's holding tactic.

I thought it was good tactical holding. Nothing out the usual. Lennox Lewis, Evander Holyfield many others use the same type tacitcs.

If Im in Peter's corner at the end of every round I would have been in the ref's ear saying listen mother****er the guy is holding my guy.

Every ****ing round that is what I would have done...make the ref acknowledge you a time or two, getting a ref to warn Wlad early in a fight as oppose to in the final round or two could be the difference in the fight.

I hate holding, but for guys like Ruiz and Wlad...it has to be a part of their game in order to be competitive and if one of my fighters was fighting either guy I would be in the corner with a bullhorn screaming every time they held.

i did see the ref warn him once after breaking a clinch... it probably was excessive, but then i also thought ali got away with alot of holding without penalty...

He warned Wlad once that I heard and it was like in the 11th so it really didnt matter.

Peter's corner (they may have I dont know) needed to be on the ref from the beginning all you would have needed was an early warning and as the fight progressed there probably would have been a deduction.

again the key is making a ref aware of it, you have no clue what the ref is looking for and chances are he is looking at different things, corners need to influence the ref like coaches.

I think the fact that George Foreman, who was a wild puncher like peter, said that is was a reasonable amount of holding says enough. he wouldve been the first person to point it out if it was as blatant as others make it out to be.

Also, i think it should be pointed out that towards the end of the fight Peter just gave in and began letting wlad hold him. i think Peter was trying to induce a warning and maybe a deduction by making himself willing to be grabbed.

I believe the holding is what caused him to get clipped in the back of the head so many times. So whatever, it worked sometimes but he did pay for it. I mean, when you clearly see how bad Peter was looking, you do whatever you can to wear his endurance down.
