Thoughts on Lebedev/Jones KO & Steve Smoger

Very brutal and unnecessary KO. Some people on this site seem to be blaming Lebedev and saying that Lebedev should be "DQ'd" for the last shot. Now that's just ridiculous.

Lebedev had Roy out. Then Lebedev clearly steps back, almost asking Smoger to stop the fight. Smoger doesn't stop it. So he lands one more punch at which point Roy goes down.

The fault is in Steve Smoger not stopping the fight.

Also, in my opinion, as I was watching the fight I felt that the fight should be stopped around round 8. It was apparent Roy was taking a lot of shots on the ropes. I feel Roy's corner should have stopped it.

The truth is that Roy shouldn't be fighting anymore period because his punch resistance is worn down. Thats not Lebedev's fault. It is the fault of Roy's team.

So dont blame Lebedev for the KO, it was faulted in Smoger and Roy's team.

As a boxing fan I don't enjoy watching these kind of brutal KO's, especially when they could have been prevented. Steve Smoger made some bad decision tonight, and I also think Roy's corner should have stopped the fight earlier.

both are at fault.. smoger was infront of roy, and lebedev made sure he got that last shot in regardless... had it been roy, or in the US he would have gotten DQ'd period

        DQ'd for what?

Roy was on his feet, he was fair game

There is absolutely no way a fighter can be DQ'd for hitting another fighter.

Yes, Roy was obviously out on his feet.

Lebedev did the right thing by stepping back and almost asking Smoger to stop it.

          Smoger did nothing.

Smoger's inaction warranted Lebedev's last punch.

Suggesting that Lebedev should be disqualified is ridiculous.

I agree, the KO was brutal and unnecessary. But the blame lies with Steve Smoger & Roy's corner.

Roy's corner needs to look out for his interests, and if he was my fighter I wouldve stopped the fight in round 8 (actually i probably wouldnt have signed to fight in the first place).

              God, I'm glad I didn't watch this. I don't think I ever will, either.

                Roy's a legend and a great guy.

It was sad to watch this happen.

Jesus, I hope this guy doesn't fight anymore for his own well-being.

yeah a DQ would have been excessive. His corner is way more to blame than Smoger. His corner is ****** to even let him train for another fight. Roy looked bad. When guys you normally could have beaten in 3 are knocking you out its time to quit. I wonder what the hell people close to him are saying to Roy. They're not doing him any good. Roy is past shot. Its serious health problems going on now. No state should licsence him after this. The reality is someone like Cloud or Ward could possibly kill him in the ring and I dont want to bare witnes to that.
