    I disagree on every count. Cotto needs to resist the urge to go toe to toe so much, but I wouldnt call him ******...just brave. He showed that he can take it and still come back and get the win. What's not to love?

    As for Wlad, I've already said that if that's his new style, I'm not interested. We already have one john ruiz and thats one too many. Like I said already, he reminded me of a mix between hopkins and ruiz....with the run, hit and hold style. It ******. Props to him for the improved stamina and for taking those punches though.
    Peter needs to drop a few lb's and work on defense and technique. If he does that he's going to be hard to beat considering we now know he has a good chin. To say he has no talent is premature considering he was fighting a guy that towered over him and kept the jab in his face all night long...the most impressive thing I saw wlad do.

      torres can come back, excellent fighter, and exciting.
      I agree, it was a bad night at the office for Cotto... But what's important is he took a win away from it.

      However I will say... I thought Corley just landed a lucky shot on Cotto to shake him up, but from what I saw last night I'm starting to think Cotto has problem with his chin.

      His equalibrium was shot all over the place each time he got caught, and he was doing the "baby elephant learning to walk" routine with his legs way to much for my liking.

        I'm with you Trace. I made this post earlier:

        Torres has a hell of a punch. If he had better stamina he could be a very good fighter. Right now his conditioning looks like ****. he can't thow a five punches without looking like he's going to collapse from exhaustion.

        Cotto got rocked a couple times but fought through it for an impressive ko. I am still up on this guy. He's exciting and he's not afraid to take a shot to deliver a few of his own. I'm not sure if he has what it takes to beat the top p4p guys in his division or not, but I do think he gives anyone a good fight.

        Klit came in with a good plan and he executed it. that is about all I can say about him. All the holding made for a pretty boring fight though in my opinion, and i agree with harold that a guy with his size and strength should mix it up more. He still has the glass chin in my opinion and that's not going to change. He did a pretty good job of working the jab, but his fear of being KTFO again clearly dictates his style and makes for a very tedious fight. Wlad will never be the man, and if he is a top hw right now then that is just a testament to how weak the division is right now.

          I guess my take on it is a bit different from much of what I've read here.......

          In a perverse sort of way, last night's performance may have actually helped in putting Cotto's name out there in the hat for future big fights. Was his chin exposed as weak? Nah......anyone watching the Corley fight knew he could be gotten to, and besides, his chin isn't necessarily weak; he just leaves it out in front too much. I also agree with the poster who mentioned he squares himself up too much. That is fine as long as you're fighting guys that can't fight back or are hopelessly outgunned, but Cotto has found himself in more rarified air in terms of competition over the past year and a half or so, so he's going to need to adjust.

          He's not ready for Hatton yet, and under no circumstances should he fight Mayweather. Floyd would do terrible, terrible things to him, it's just a horrible stylistic matchup for Cotto.

          As to the big guys, I was impressed by Wlad. He came into this fight the underdog, and was considered damaged goods, just the sacrificial lamb a new stud like Sam Peter should want to fight. Well, we learned that Wlad can box quite effectively last night, he is not one-dimensional, and though his many detractors will deride him for holding and moving, I would only volley that with a question in turn.......how would YOU fight a guy like Peter, cowboy?

          Peter showed last night that he is in serious need of some technical assistance. All the guy knows how to do is club opponents with big powershots. His punch output was ridiculously low in the second half of the fight, which can be attributed to both his own lack of stamina and Wlad's boxing. He learned a hard lesson last night. He should take heart in that he is far from a finished product, but he might consider getting a trainer who can teach him a few nuances, how to roll under a jab and go to the body with both hands. For whatever it's worth, watching Peter last night, I kept imagining what Joe Frazier would have done to Klitschko, bobbing underneath and whaling to the body.

              ===========================

              Dude, Joe was hit repeatedly from jabs by a much smaller fighter, Ali. Peter is so much bigger and stronger than Joe it's a joke. I like Frazier, but c'mon, he was a little guy and you don't see heavies his size anymore. He'd be smaller than most modern cruisers. Shots that Peter took would knock Joe on his ass. It's a different era. I'm sure Joe might have a few moments, he was good, but seriously outmanned both physically and in talent. A big heart only goes so far.

                  Guess I just don't subscribe to the idea that because a fighter is bigger it means he'd beat smaller (and FAR better) fighters. Skill does have something to do with it. In fact, it has MOST to do with it.

                    "The next Gatti"?? I seriously doubt the thought ever entered cotto's mind considering that Gatti, although exciting to watch, does not have the best record. I'd like to think it's just the warrior in him that likes to go toe to toe sometimes, and has nothing to do with trying to be anyone other than Cotto. No need to be anybody else when he's great as himself.
