I've always known how the fight plays out (Taylor winning the first half and then Hopkins really taking over the later half) but I've never really sat down to actually watch the fight round-by-round.
Before the ringwalks, the usual HBO tale of the tape/stats pop up and I can't didn't know Hopkins had already reached the 40 year-old mark when he faced such a young, prime, undefeated fighter in Jermain Taylor. It's remarkable how, even today (6 years later) he is still a threat in his respective division.
This is really one of those things I don't think anyone could've predicted at that time (in 2005). It's kind of like anyone being watching Pacquiao when he was beginning to make a name for himself against Barrera, Morales, and Márquez. Who ever thought that he would move up all the way to 147 (or 151) and be such a dominant force?
For those that were fans of boxing at the time (and I'm sure there have to SOME that were fans in 2005 here), what were your thoughts going into this fight?
