Here's my two cents
I love Mayweather as a fighter (when he fights -_-). I love his style, I wish I could master his style, etc, etc. But as a man yes he is very flawed. The video of him spewing racism I may have been him being a racist, or it may have just been a super competitive person who only knows how to try and demean his opponent doing just that. It may have been ******ity. The fact of the matter is that Mayweather, Pacquiao, and any other professional athlete, especially the greatest of the bunches, are exceedingly competitive people with egos and all else that comes with it. This is precisely why they are great at their sports but often not role-models. Unfortunately their egos, pride, and competitiveness are exactly what makes them the greats we admire for their abilities.
My trainer once told me to picture my opponent in the toilet everytime I used the bathroom, to dehumanize him as much as possible to make fighting him an easier task. And I train purely for fun. You guys know what it's like to be in a fight or even in an intense sparring session, sometimes you need just a little bit more to get you over the top, to get you through it. All of this talk from Floyd (and any other boxer, athlete, etc) may just be a part of who he is. Not to mention the poor, uneducated background of many athletes who spend their days competing to make it out of poverty rather than learning things the rest of us consider givens, such as respect, humility, and the like. Throw in the fact/look at who raised Floyd and tell me why his moral base is so out of whack.
Everything needs to be viewed in perspective, athletes included. The mind of a professional athlete at the skill levels of Mayweather, Pacquiao, and others is something none of us can truly get a full understanding of and, of course, even what I'm saying is speculation. Still, we may be best served not wasting time by listening to what they say because let's face it, we don't follow them for their personalities or beliefs, we follow them because they can fight. If we loved their beliefs we'd vote for them, and I don't see that happening (Manny pun intentional).
