What some of you slower fans haven't realized is that Floyd is a LOT smarter than you think. No Black fighter has gotten the recognition of being THEE best or even the biggest draw since Tyson. Floyd watched Roy Jones Jr dominate for over a decade. And no matter what RJJ accomplished(& it was alot) he was always criticized. After what the man did he didn't get half as many accolades as other non-Black fighters.
So, when Floyd went to the WWF, he learned a thing or two about showmanship. He learned that playing the "bad guy" could pay more dividends than trying to be the mild mannered dude he was in the previous years of his career. That's how I know most people haven't been fans long. Floyd was a quiet dude and very humble. For years he's been winning and winning and moving up and winning even more.
And who got all the credit despite losing every major match in his career since fighting Trinidad? You got it: Oscar DelaHoya. DelaHoya is perhaps THEE most hyped boxer in boxing history. For years DLH's non-accomplishments overshadowed Floyd when Floyd wasn't outspoken.
Boxing NEVER gave Mayweather the credit he deserved. Floyd not only had to win, he had to start doing what Roy Jones was doing: Talking in interviews and post fight interviews to FORCE the media to acknowledge what he had done.
They did this to Bernard Hopkins. They are doing this to Tim Bradley. They did it to Winky Wright. They are doing it to Andre Ward. They are doing it to Chad Dawson. Its been going on since Jack Johnson.
Floyd basically said "**** it" and gladly became the bad guy. Remember, Ali was the bad guy literally for years. When no one else shows you the love for the milestones you achieve you have to love yourself most.
Call Mayweather a prick, a douche or whatever makes you sleep better at night. But its not YOUR career. None of you have spent the better part of the last 15 years sacrificing and dominating only to be told to be humble ... while guys like DLH has been treated like boxing royalty.
Its a slap in the face, and its really nothing new in boxing. The problem is that certain groups of fans don't acknowledge this dynamic in boxing, and therefore don't understand why Black athletes are usually so-called "braggers". They would rather just say ignorant things like "ALL Black people are arrogant showoffs".
You HAVE to be a showoff to be recognized in certain circles. Ask Barack. Had he done what Bush did he would go down as the worst president EVER! He's got to be extraordinary just so not to be ridiculed!
Live in denial if you want but there is a huge double standard.
Some of you are judging Mayweather because of his legal troubles, but I read that Pacquiao fathered a child out of wedlock with a local **********. What does that say about Mr Clean Cut?? He's no better. He's no worse.
