It's an intriguing idea. Ortiz vs Mayweather.
I hesitate to be genuinely excited about the fight. I think Ortiz is still too green to be entering the ring with Floyd...(or Pac for that matter). I like Ortiz alot (even when he gave up against Maidana) but realistically, I think he will get caught up with the hype and glammer of it all.
It's a lucrative payday, I get it. But I truly hope Ortiz brings his A game. He must bring that killer instinct from the Berto fight, and bring his boxing skills.
If he is in the best condition both physically and Mentally? then I believe Ortiz being youthful may be able to pull off an upset by applying effective pressure and precision punching.
He loses if he doesn't keep his guard up.
Interesting to say the least!

I expect news one way or another soon, either confirming it or denying it, because Ortiz still hasn't said anything on twitter other than it looks like he has no idea about this.

Found some old article dated all the way back to the 25th about it, no new information though.
Orthodox American: Victor Ortiz lined up as possible opponent for Floyd Mayweather Jr, Richard Schaefer gives Victor ‘a chance’

Alan Dawson – London
Victor Ortiz‘s brutal victory over Floridian boxer Andre Berto at Foxwoods Resort Casino, Mashantucket, Connecticut on April 16, stripping Berto of the WBC World Welterweight title in the process, has prompted Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer to explore the possibility of matching Ortiz with undefeated pay-per-view draw Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Victor-y over Berto helped Ortiz's P4P cause, may take on Floyd
Ortiz’s decision win over Berto (27-1-0, 21ko) highlighted his potential as not only a showman but also a welterweight star as, following on from his ring entrance where he sported a caricature sombrero, his physique – compared to Berto – looked like it belonged to a natural super welterweight rather than a boxer who was campaigning at super lightweight just five months ago.
His thrilling win, as scored by On The Beak‘s Denzil Stone here, eliminated any question marks relating to his perceived ‘quitter’ status, and Golden Boy’s Schaefer has put forth Ortiz’s name as a comeback fight for Mayweather Jr (41-0-0, 25ko) should a lucrative pound-for-pound showdown with Manny Pacquiao continue to prove elusive.
“Is Mayweather the better boxer than Victor? Yes,” Schaefer told ESPN. “But is Victor younger and stronger and bigger than Mayweather? Yes. Can he hurt Mayweather? Yes. Mayweather is pound-for-pound the best, right there with Pacquiao, but he hasn’t fought for a year. I think a lot of people would give Victor a chance if that fight happened,” concluded the promotional executive.
Following his crumbling sixth round technical knockout defeat to Marcos Maidana in 2009, Ortiz (29-2-2, 22ko) soon became eclipsed by the major players in the super lightweight division due to HBO’s unofficial four-man competition that included Maidana, Devon Alexander, Amir Khan and Timothy Bradley – with the latter two prevailing and progressing to a potential unification bout this summer.
The transition to welterweight has suited the 24-year-old southpaw who looked to have enhanced his power with the new weight while retaining his speed. Defeating Berto and obtaining championship status has ensured Ortiz is now in unfamiliar territory as he was the one doing the chasing for the bigger fights at 140lbs but now it is he who is being chased at 147.
Selcuk Aydin (21-0-0, 16ko), a largely unheralded fighter from Turkey, is hoping that Ortiz remembers that he stepped aside his right as mandatory challenger in order for the April match-up with Berto to be finalised. In return, he expects a shot at the new champion.
A bout with Mayweather Jr, meanwhile, may not be unlikely. Despite his inactivity, he remains the WBC’s ‘Emeritus’ champion, meaning that when he returns, he can exercise his right to challenge the ‘Regular’ belt holder for the full honour. Should Ortiz decline, Mayweather Jr would resume his incumbency as world titlist. Ortiz, though, according to recent statements as reported by On The Beak here, would relish the opportunity of a lucrative fight.
