Las Vegas - Miguel Cotto's next bout will be against a Mexican, but not necessarily be Antonio Margarito.
The Puerto Rican fighter's promoter, Bob Arum, told El Nuevo Dia today that Cotto could meet Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., in his next fight.
"We do not know how is Margarito's physical condition after his fight with Pacquiao, " said Arum, president of Top Rank. "I do not want to risk his health, but obviously is not fair to make Miguel wait until Miguel Margarito recovers. So we are studying the possibility of a fight against Chavez Jr. "
In his last fight, Margarito was beaten by the filipino Manny Pacquiao, who on Saturday will face Shane Mosley in this city. Arum emphasized that if Margarito was not ready, he wanted a fight between Cotto and Chavez Jr., the son of the legendary boxer of the same name.
"Chavez Jr., has a very important fight in June. If he(Chavez) wins, Cotto could challenge him for the WBC 160 lbs title (WBC), "the promoter said.
Cotto is schedule today to get to Las Vegas to discuss these plans with the promoter.
