Floyd always talks about how great he is and how he can beat Pacquiao easily. If he can beat him so easily, why does he need a tune up? Sugar Ray Leonard fought Hagler without a tune up and he was away for a longer period of time than Floyd. He was at the Ortiz/Berto fight looking for his tune up. If Pacquiao took a loss recently or started looking like trash in the ring, Floyd would fight him in the very near future. He is doing anything to protect that zero in the loss column. When will he fight Pacquiao? Is he going to disappear again after the tune up. If he does then that defeats the purpose of the tune up. He needs to fight a tune up as soon as possible and then fight Pacquiao in late 2011. The tune up oppenent can't be a pushover either. The opponent has to be respectable if Floyd says he is the best. Ortiz looks like the most likely oppenent because I can't think of anyone else who is on the come up in the 147 division and has a recognizable name. Floyd will not pay the sanctioning fee for Ortiz's belt because he does not want to be forced to defend it and he does not want his opponents to be chosen. Anything to protect his undefeated record. Shameful. Pacquiao is a real champion because he remains active, fights anyone, and continues to win. Floyd thinks being undefeated can stand alone. Fighters have lost before and still have been regarded as great. You cannot be regarded as great if you duck opponents. All the PED controversy that Floyd started about Pacquiao was just pure jealousy. Floyd did not want the public to believe that any other fighter could be better and achieve more than him so he tried to damage his reputation
flint, no way will he fight Martinez - did u hear the word "tuneup" u think he's gonna take one of the toughest challenges of his career when his trainer is already saying he's taking a tuneup.
Mesher, I think you may be right, unfortunately. I could see Morales, b/c he's a name and the Mayweather camp could claim it's a tuneup. That fight would be a complete joke. After seeing what he did to Marquez, imagine what he'd do to Morales, who's more shot and slower. Maidana was the perfect style matchup for Morales.
Mayweather won't fight Ortiz next either - again, too tough. If not Morales, it would be someone like Malignaggi; maybe Ricardo Mayorga. Someone that will have virtually 0 chance to win.
Cotto would be a great pick; although probably wouldn't get done b/c of the Top Rank Golden Boy feud, and Arum plans on makin Cotto-Margarito II.
A few urs back, I though Cotto would be a very tough fight for Floyd, but at this point in his career, Floyd would easily beat him and win 11 of 12 rounds.
g24fella, ur right. Ive said that b4 too. That Leonard fought Hagler after 3 yrs off and needed no tuneup. Although the chance of PAc-May happening this yr is virtuall 0.
Id be happy if Floyd takes his tuneup in Oct, Pac fights Marquez in November, and then they fight in March '12. I'd basicall be happy w/ anythin that leads to Pac-May fighting w/in the next 12 months b/c I had gotten to the point that I thought it may never happen. But, now I'm thinkn again that it probably will.
It's the 1 fight that would make boxing the lead sports story across America no matter what else was happening
