Regardless of how slim and trim Nips comes in at, nothing's going to improve his horrible clubfighter-esque skills. The man has no headmovement, two left feet, and pushes his punches. This was evident way back in his amateur days, when he actually was in good shape, and he hasn't really improved since. His overhand right looks like a punch an overweight boxercize chick would throw. Would him losing weight improve his chances of winning? Absolutely. But anyone here who seriously thinks an in-shape Arreola can be a champion is deluding themselves.

Anyway, saying all that, here's to Arreola actually maintaining a decent fighting weight in the future. At the very least it'll be good for the division and show us the very best that he's capable of performing.

I don't think he can beat a Klitschko, but he could certainly beat Haye and I would have no problem betting on him to do so.

I'm no Haye fan as you know, but I'd pick him to win on points against the Nippleman. Haye's shown himself to be rather good at implementing gameplans against slow, limited opponents like Arreola (albeit by stinking out the joint, but that's another matter entirely). He'd probably pull a similar stunt to what he did in the Valuev fight, basically avoiding engagement and exploding with the odd eye-catching combination. Arreola would take him into deep waters though, but Haye's shown he has pretty good heart when the going gets tough.

He should have been doing that anyway. I mean this is a professional athlete we're talking about, not some abused fatboy with self-esteem issues.

I think a more fit Arreola at a lighter weight is mobile enough and has a good enough chin to wear Haye down, pursue him and take him out late. Valuev was broken down and couldn't move -- and he's had 3 different surgeries since that fight.

We'll have to agree to disagree.

Arreola is one of the new breed of American male who doesn't even start to grow up until he hits 30 yrs of age.

I just hope he can stick with the discipline he's shown so far in 2011.

Yeah, so do I. But the fact that he fought for so long is such horrible condition, having a crack at a world title in the process, shouldn't be easily forgotten. Arreola's going to need to have some impressive wins in the future if he hopes to get back into title contention.

I don't hold up the Valuev win as anything super-special, but at the very least it showed me that Haye could box and stick to a gameplan, whilst avoiding his opponent's shots. It gave me a much better impression of Haye's footwork, head movement and intelligent shot placement.

Of course Arreola isn't Valuev, and a lighter Arreola will be more mobile than an overweight one. But fleet-footed he will never be. And the problems with Arreola go deeper than just his weight. His whole style is primitive and awful. He doesn't seem to have any notion of cutting off the ring, merely plodding after his opponents and throwing a few punches when they happen to stay still for a moment. He telegraphs his shots, hardly ever moves his head and fights in an extremely predictable rhythm. These are all things that Haye can exploit, and will exploit if they ever fought.

Obviously Haye has some major issues of his own, namely his dodgy stamina and subsequent hittability. But in order for Nips to exploit these he's going to have to walk through a firestorm of punches. And whilst Arreola is a tough cookie he's not an idiot, and I think once he feels Haye's power it's going to adversely affect his confidence and thus his chances of pulling a Margarito to Haye's Cotto.

We could do, but it's more fun to argue right?
