Speed Identical to Holmes is what I assumed he meant.

I considered Tyson to be in his prime on November 22, 1986 when he fought Trevor Berbick. Specifically, in the first round. I feel that his handspeed had decreased slightly by the second round, and so he was passed his prime. Therefore, all of his losses and poor performances after this fight don't count against his legacy, and neither do the ones before.

ok, by your guys responses, his prime didn't last very long. i've seen a lot of younger tyson, many fights on live tv as well. but i wouldn't to get some opinions so i could relate more to the general opinion of a prime tyson.

if you conclude his prime years as being 1986 to '88, he fought **** as competition. nothing even mentionable. most fighters don't fight good competition in thier first few years anyways. so to answer the main question of this thread, no, he wouldn't have to have necessarily quick feet to beat the c or d level fighters that he fought in those years.

it would also be extremely hard to gauge a "prime" tyson against other heavyweight champions, as in his prime he has fought nobody close to champion caliber.

unless you count michael spinks or an older larry holmes.

I dunno. I just saw him dancing on a TV special once. He looked quite fleet footed, but you know... when some one's throwing punches at you, some of that fleet... can up & flit.

I think we know for a fact that he can dance on his toes, but the question is how fast.
I'm trying to figure out the question now. I know he said like Larry Holmes, but faster or equal to, slower or equal to, slower, or faster is the question..
