This is the fun part of talking about boxing....
I think that in general no one can really refute that Sugar Ray Robinson is the greatest of them all. But what does really mean? That most of often than not, SRR could most likely "School" anyone, including Pacquiao.
But reality is that just like in life, there are no such thing as a "sure thing", that's a cliché but in reality, we can dissect as much as we want, simulate it in a super-computer, leaving no stones unturned and interview the most knowledgeable fighters, trainers and boxing afficionadoes of the past and present no one can really say what would happen in this mythical fight.
But in reality since anything can happen...if both sides are "even" as far as weight and all, both CAN knock each other out. Because it is all based on timing, opportunity and follow ups.
If Pacquiao for example would "Get lucky" (using that phraseology because no one seems to give him a chance but for this speculative and educational discourse), a jab followed by a mean left cross and follow ups can also deter ANYONE...I mean anyone.
I believe that. Not just Pacquiao but any boxer...
And so sure, we can use DATA and experiences and all, but surely in a fight no one can really determine it. It isn't quite like Chess where we can all just use objectivity and calculations or techniques because there's so many subjective factors into play. But also like Chess are the practitioners behind the chess pieces.
The chess players' demeanors and their cunning can also upset the other.
And so back to boxing with SRR and MP. I would "safely" pick SRR...that's the norm. But this is of course only because we are calculating data and speculations and all. But we can't measure the boxers just by that...
So I would adhere to possibilities all the time...we just won't know even if we know.Comment

Manny Pacquiao versus Sugar Ray Robinson
Rafael
Rafael: Pacquiao is an all-time great, but Robinson is, by wide acclimation, the single greatest fighter in boxing history. Period. He was fast. He could punch with both hands. He had one of the best chins ever (he was stopped only once in 202 professional fights). At one point, Robinson was 128-1-2, with the lone defeat coming by decision to future Hall of Famer Jake LaMotta (whom he would ultimately go 5-1 against). And Robinson fought and beat numerous other Hall of Famers as well. It was only late in his career that he began losing more regularly.
Pacquiao has faced many top fighters, but not the all-time greats that Robinson did -- including LaMotta, Henry Armstrong (viewed by many as the second-best fighter of all time), Kid Gavilan and Carmen Basilio. Match a prime welterweight Robinson with Pacquiao at his best at welterweight, and I have to go with Robinson by a mid-rounds knockout. He just had too much of everything. Pacquiao is great. Robinson was the greatest.
Mulvaney
Mulvaney: Seriously? Robinson was the greatest welterweight -- probably the greatest boxer -- who ever lived. Pacquiao, fabulous as he has been, has fought at welterweight or higher just four times in his career; only two dozen of Robinson's 200 fights were below that weight class. This was a man who lost just one of his first 123 contests, and at 147 pounds he was close to fistic perfection.
Too tall, too fast, too strong, too skilled, too slick on his feet. Robinson spears Pacquiao all night long before dropping and stopping him in the middle rounds.
Tessitore
Tessitore: Sugar Ray Robinson would box Manny Pacquiao all night long. He would counterpunch with ease. He'd be able to match speed and would have an edge in size. Manny would fall short and lunge for Sugar Ray, who would pick him off. I like Robinson by unanimous decision.
Kenny
Kenny: Let's just take Robinson out of the equation. At welterweight, he has no peer -- no, not even Pacqauio.Comment

Against the likes of Sugar Ray Leonard, Sugar Ray Robinson, Roberto Duran, and other HOFs Pac will always lose, he just doesn't have the style or boxing skills to beat these guys.
You want a fantasy matchup that Pacquiao would win ????? He would destroy Hector Camacho really easy, now theres a former P4P legend that Pacquiao would beat.Comment

We don't know, most of those clowns (so called boxing experts and BS posters) picked Pavlik over Hopkins, Lacy over Calzaghe, Oscar over Pacquiao...
How the **** they gonna pick fantasy fights??
I like your words:" we don't know if we know"
I think Manny is more skilled,3 times faster and more accurate than Lamotta, so he might have a small chance...Comment
