Why did Khan stop hitting Maidana in the body?

After Khan got the KD in the first round, he didn't seem to want to hit him there much again.

Makes no sense. When something like that happens you create a Trigger Point (TrP), and the subject is far more easily injured again by blows to that spot.

The Trigger Point radiates outward and also can affect the vagus nerve, which is why the person has trouble breathing. It can even temporarily affect heart rhythm. Feels like you are dying.

Boxing people intrinsically know some of this. Either Khan or Roach at fault here. Keep on that spot!

Khan though just seemed to be happy to dance out of harms way and pile up points till he got caught.

Why didn't he keep hammering there?

He might've been worried about being countered upstairs.

      Good point.
And I didn't mean exclusively or recklessly. But it just seemed like he avoided it, when you just don't fully recover from that during a fight.

They had a gameplan and going to the body wasn't part of it. However, if Khan went to the body some more, I think he could have stopped Maidana around the 5-7th rounds. It was very silly not to go back there, as Maidana looked bothered by every bodyshot that landed.

The body shot combo was a relatively newly learned set piece combo that Roach and Khan had been working on. I think he was really surprised at the result and had not got the move down to instinctive level yet where he had the confidence to keep on repeating it. He was happy to drain Maidana get well on top and just maintain his advantage in stead of really going for it.

            Thanks, Timba.

Do you think Maidana is weak in this area?
Or Khan just got a lucky or a monstrous shot in there?

I think you are right about this at a deep level regarding Khan.

I think he does not have a warrior's heart. He had the guy, instinct alone would have a boxer wanting to go for that shot again. Not recklessly or such. But he is happy to try to be out of harm's way and get points.

Not gonna work with Bradley who will swarm him from the getgo.

Amir does have loads of heart but the killer instinct was clearly missing in round 1,but he is not an innovator inside the ring who can think on his feet . He follows set piece game plans and is building the building blocks of his technique bit by bit with Roach. Although his chin held up there were big ???? about it going into the fight and that meant being cautious was prudent and wise. With a better chin to rely on there are less risks in going for broke.

Instinctively or not, I think the body shot can become more of a weapon for Khan. He threw that shot in a combo and with good leverage.

He can set it up with his speed by making the opponent cover up when he flurries, then going downstairs.
