The Martinez lost wasn't as bad as people make it out to be. And Bute is not even close to Martinez's level.

We'll know when we see his next performance. Never heard of his opponent, Pavlik should get through him without too much struggle. A Bute fight would be great in the near future.

I think Bute would actually be a better match up for him, as I'm not sure how well Pavlik would do against the top 168 fighters. I think he beats Abraham and Kessler, but loses to Ward, Froch, and even Dirrell. Not sure about Johnson though.
That is the key alright. Kelly did not look great at 170, but that was vs Hopkins..... let's wait and see.

I am not convinced that Kelly could beat Kessler or the Road Warrior.

Martinez is more like a 154 lb'er than a middleweight and still busted up the much bigger man.

He has never won a fight at 168 in his life and relied on his size at middleweight.

He might be the 6th or 7th best guy at 168, that's about it. I'm just pointing out the fact that Bute is a champ at that weight, has defended like 8 times, but has yet to face a legit top 7 fighter at his own weight.
      All good points.

Pavlik struggles with movement, and can be easily countered.

But Bute is largely untested and could struggle if effectively pressured.

Maybe it could be a good fight ?

How do you see it going then ?

Ummmm. Did you watch that fight?

        A) None of them were hurt knockdowns. In fact, you could argue balance/slip on *both* of them. *And it was 2 knockdowns btw, again...did you watch the fight?*
        B) Did Hopkins come back, knock Pascal down in the 11th, and earn a draw? (In Pascals homefield no less....)

I had B-hop winning on my score card.

Martinez is more like a 154 lb'er than a middleweight and still busted up the much bigger man.
Where did B-hop and Pav fight? Oh yeah, 170.

He has never won a fight at 168 in his life and relied on his size at middleweight.
Yes, his size is why he KOd a guy never KOd before. Beat JT twice which B-hop couldn't. And so on.

What we have to see is if his power will carry at 168. That's the big question.

He might be the 6th or 7th best guy at 168, that's about it. I'm just pointing out the fact that Bute is a champ at that weight, has defended like 8 times, but has yet to face a legit top 7 fighter at his own weight.
Actually weren't you saying Pavlik was blown out in the Martinez fight? Which he wasn't. Revisionist history much.

I had Pavlik ahead after he knocked Martinez down. Pavlik had adjusted to Martinez quickness and moving in and out and was outlanding him in all the middle rounds. Period. When his cut opened up it was all over the place, pretty obvious he couldn't see to well and thus he lost the decision.

To say he got blown out is pretty ridiculous.

And let's not try to say Martinez doesn't have KO power, busted up a bigger man? He just KOd a guy who had never been down his whole career and KOd Paul William with one punch. He's on another level right now and Pavlik did well in the fight against him.

Wasn't Abraham supposed to be better than Froch. And Johnson wasn't even in the Super tourney till injury. So, just goes to show can never be too sure what will happen.

If his power can carry, there's no reason he shouldn't be able to beat people at that weight. Just have to see what happens. I think B-hop makes a lot of people look bad who would otherwise look better, plus B-hops real natural weight is 168/175 and he actually got stronger moving up because he was cutting to make 160 all those years.

i dont give pavlik much of a shot against bute. pavlik is slow, plodding, but at least he's durable. he would make for a great fight with abraham. that has war written all over it. same with andrade. im salivating for those fights to happen. with kessler, well, kessler might be faded enough for pavlik to take out at this point. froch would make for a good fight too, but i see froch beating pavlik handily. i wouldn't even put him in there w/ ward.

Only morons thought Abraham was going to beat Dirrell and/or Froch.

Easiest fights to predict the past couple years, won a lot of money off Abraham being a horrible overrated fighter.

A drunk Pavlik would school him.

                    Pavlik at 168

THE main difference between Pavlik the beast and Pavlik the bum is his workrate. When he was moving up through the middleweights he often punched 100 times a round with authority. IF he can do that, at 168 and not weight drained and half drunk then he beats most of the SMWs including Bute. If he can't stay busy enough to make those bigger guys play some defense against his right hand then he's just another guy that continues to lose big fights against good fighters. No shame in that it's just that he could really make some noise if everything translates. He keeps saying that his 2 losses are held against him too much, if he becomes that guy, that fights well but usually loses then he's going to get his wish of being a former champion that can still get big fights against top opponents with 5 or 6 losses.(Can I hear a Margarito!) He might even win a couple with his right hand, but never against the elite. So I guess only time will tell.

kelly is a straight up punk!

he ran from paul williams, didnt want a rematch with sergio, went up to 168 and then was offered to fight bute and he went back down to 160. chicken shyt all the way. will never win another major fight again. needs to retire. his fight is with the bottle and the ring. loss to bhops did him in.
