    What a fight this was.

Vargas was never the same after Tito snatched his soul.

At 20 years old. He shouldn't had been in there with Tito

Fernando Vargas was a true Mexican warrior, and a credit to his race - the human race. The heart of a lion, but,at his best,a smooth operator of genuine class.A young man that fought with the experience and poise of a fighter far beyond his actual age and experience.Even as a young prospect,he looked and fought like a man that had been fighting professionally for years.

You'll find some Puerto Rican fans who will gloat over this victory, but, deep down, they know what their hero had to go through to earn victory. The fight was supposed to have been over in the first round when Trinidad, one of the sport's most highly regarded punchers, and an excellent finisher in his own right, had Vargas down twice and hurt.Yet,not only did Vargas survive the onslought, but he recovered, remained calm, fought his way back into the fight and fought on even terms until the very last round

Great fight and credit to both men for giving the fans of this sport such a fight.Trinidad was the real 'fighter of the year' of 2000.And the fact that such a magnificent fight as this wasn't 'fight of the year' is simply a testament to the other great fights that had already taken place in that year.

Boxing at it's best is beautiful sport and no other sport comes close - Vargas and Trinidad proved this.

I don't get why people say he was given to Tito too early. As has already been mentioned, he had beaten some good guys before that. Then, you factor in that he went 12 awesome rounds with one of the best of that time. Theres no shame in losing to a guy like Tito, at any stage of a career. The timing was just right for these two to clash. Vargas wasn't going to get any better than he already was.

Quality highlight, great heart shown by Vargas coming back after that difficult first round.

Only man to every make Trinidad cry after a fight (post fight interview) talk about how tough boxing really is and what you have to go through to win a fight...a brutal war.

Looking at some old Trinidad fights, Trinidad had great technique not just power. He is steps above the pr fighters of today.
