Comments Thread For: Roach: Inactivity May Have Hurt Berto Against Ortiz

Veteran trainer Freddie Roach believes Andre Berto's inactivity may have played a role in last Saturday's decision loss to Victor Ortiz. In a span of a year, Berto had only one round in the bank, with a first round knockout of Freddy Hernandez last November.

Could Roach be hinting he would like to train Berto?

I agree that Berto will be back. He wasn't going to find out how vulnerable he is until he fought someone this good. So it was going to happen either way. Now he's forced to make decisions about his corner, and he'll be forced to work on his defense. Those easy padays are likely over. He should only get better. That chin can still get cracked though...

He could improve the strength in Berto's legs too, like he did with Khan which really showed against Maidana.
