Those KO losses were before 2000.

Salido improved quite a bit since then.

Before Gamboa, his last 2 losses was a split decision against Cristobal Cruz (which he avenged later) and a UD against Marquez in 2004.

Don't let the 11 losses fool you. Salido is pretty damn credible.

Tyson was a living legend, an indestructible undisputed champ etc.

Lopez is an upset but nowhere near comparable.

...you're only looking at the record, plainly speaking. Salido started his career at the age of 15 (6 of those losses were during his first 16-17 fights). Like someone else said around these boards, this was a fighter who probably took up boxing as a way to make ends meet and learned "on the job". No amateur background, no outstanding factor that makes him elite, he just became a very solid fighter who always comes to fight and give anyone enough problems to make his opponents uncomfortable.

          Other notes in Salido's career:

He beat Robert Guerrero before it was changed to a NC because Salido failed a drug test.
He went 12 rounds with Gamboa and knocked him down.
He has been in the ring with Juan Manuel Marquez. It was not a competitive fight, but you can see where I'm going with this.

This fighter is akin to...well, I can't think of any fighter. What I'm trying to say is that he's been around the block and has fought a lot of great fighters. The experience edge was with Salido against Juanma. I never felt comfortable with the match-up.

I never saw why people said that Juanma would blow Salido out of the water. Just...no.

Tyson/Douglas was one of those moments in sports history where you go "Where were you at when Tyson was KOd"

To be at that magnitude...sheesh, nothing really. No boxer has(d) the Tyson factor

Tyson was number 1 in the world. Juanma was at best tied with Gamboa for number 1 in the divisinlon.
