Canelo should've fought a Mayorga before the title. It's easier to forgive Canelo because he's fighting the decent quality Rhodes but Canelo needs to give his Mando a chance very soon. That or somebody better still than Rhodes. I hope this won't be catch-weight BS either.

        Mayorga?

Mayorga is a bum. The only thing that he has done in his whole career is beat Vernon Forest. He keeps losing, yet he continues to get big fights. Alvarez is a champion and has had many fights. It is time that he fights some real competition.

This would be a decent scrap. This is the kind of fight a guy takes right before he takes the big step up. If Alvarez beats Mayorga it is time to fight the very best in the division.

are you kidding me? what a joke of a fight. i understand 'a name on the resume' idea, but dude is a nobody. cotto fighting him was a joke, alvarez should fight someone young or relevant. this fight will get bashed beyond believe, and it would make a joke out of the WBC (more than it already is)....what a shame if they take this fight. i understand a tune up to a big fight or something, but this is just a waste of time for alvarez

I don't see the hype in Canelo yet. I just don't see him as that good. Sure, its easy to look very good against Tomato cans but Mayorga, imo is still dangerous. Sure, he lost to Cotto but the fight was still competitive. Mayorga i think will give Canelo problems, even possibly pulling of an upset. He's young and entertaining to watch at times, but i don't see much else. Atleast he aint Chavez Jr. whom i think is CRAP, Zbik will tax that ass! If he defeats Rhodes in good fashion, i'll then give him the respect he'd deserve.

Exactly. If Alvarez is the " real deal " they should let him prove it.

idk man, i just think if alvarez was to be fed some more scraps, it should be against guys around his age or ones still in the rankings. i think the reason why cotto/mayorga was interesting is cause cotto is really on his way out. i love cotto, but reality is that his best days are behind him. also, the fact that cotto didn't really run around the ring or try to avoid mayorga's wild punches that much. i think if mayorga and alvarez were to exchange, alvarez would drop him like cotto did to mayorga in the 12th. idk, it could end up being a better fight than i assume, but either way, this fight will get tons of criticism.

De la hoya are you kidding yourself, cause you arent kidding the public? Fighting mayorga, are you serious? This fight is a big joke and the public will bash you and your cheesy ass fighter for taking on these bogus and worthless fights. Winning the title against hatton was a big enough joke, now wanting to make a fight against a guy who hasnt won a fight in so long is enough worse. Canelo vales pura reata guey.
