This. I believe the general consensus is that if a fighter gains 20 or more pounds on fight night they're most likely in terrible shape (ie. Daniel Santos against Yuri Foreman).

A natural WW SHOULD weigh within WW limits on fight nights. This crap about hydrating to middleweights on fight night negates the purpose of having weight classes.

BUT....... in this place called reality fighters who weigh within WW limits on FN are generally known as LWs.

This weight in system is all screwed up. U have fighters almost killing themselves to compete in smaller weight classes then putting on 10-15lbs of water weight within 24hrs just to have an advantage. They should go back to same day weigh-in's in my opinion.

Can't blame fighters for doing anything they can to get an advantage within the rules of the sport, these guys all have the same advantages and disadvantages with how the rules are set up now so I see no issue with it.

yeah man, coming in the ring as a middle weight or JMW fighting WW or LW kind of defeats the purpose of the weight classes. But you can also look at it from their prespective....They are kind of at a disadvantage because they do have to kill themselves to make weight...its confusing man..I still say if u weigh 161 u need to be fighting Martinez and those others JMW/MW

What i'm saying is, the weigh-in rules are all screwed up in this sport. 98% of fighters are fighting in the wrong weight class. Have same day weigh in's to eliminate this nonsense of coming in 2 weightclasses above the weight class you're fighting at.

WWs do not normally come in at 147-150 on fight night, even if they are in tip top shape. You can expect the majority of fighters to gain around 10 pounds or more (typically more) with the 24 hour weigh period. 147-150 is a very small WW, one who probably has no business fighting at 147 because of the size difference they'll encounter. I can almost guarantee you PBF hasn't come in at 147 on fight night ever since moving up to 147, no one does really (except for Pacquiao but he's the exception). Against JMM and Mosley he looked huge, he was more likely closer to 160 than 150. JMM claimed in the post fight that PBF had 20 pounds on him on fight night, which looked about right. We'll never know for sure since he refused to be weighed in on fight night which will leave you to believe he was pushing close to 160 in there.

But doesn't it just all even out? If just about everyone does it anyway, it won't make it anymore or less fair with same days because again the fighters will still have the same advantages and disadvantages and be fighting all of the same fighters but in different weight classes.
