as much as i like nick diaz, he wouldn't be able to hang with ward or any top fighter in boxing. sparring is way different than fighting, just ask any of margarito's sparring partners, they always get the best of him during sparring, but in the fight, all controversy aside, margarito beats them up, or at least did.
what i'm getting at here is there are too many factors that i don't think are realistically being looked at here.
diaz is used to fighting inferior fighters when it comes to boxing in mma. only one guy has he fought that has had decent boxing credentials, kj noons, and he isnt a world beater. so being as talented as he is, his boxing is leaps and bounds above the talent that is there in mma when it comes to boxing.
the only issue is, when he's boxing in mma, he has mma gloves, not two pounds worth of wrappings, tape, gauze, and gloves; and although diaz is a supremely trained and conditioned fighter, it's a different beast fighting with those gloves.
another aspect that isnt really being looked at, is diaz is EASY to hit, and although he has a solid chin and excellent recuperative skills, but he wont be able to take a guy down and hang on til he recovers like he does in mma.
if a life long wrestler who is relatively new to boxing/striking because he had to learn that aspect of the game to fight in mma can land big shots on diaz, what the hell is diaz going to do when a life long boxer like a andre ward lands shots on him? a guy that has more precision in boxing than anyone he's ever faced, starts teeing off on him, a guy with WAY more BOXING experience, what power? or what techniques ? could diaz pull out that would have him over come those two aspects of boxing reality. nothing that i can see.
i want to make it clear that i respect nick diaz, i am a fan, i just am realistic about his move to boxing. if he is going to move into boxing, he's going to have to be groomed a bit.
diaz gets tagged a lot and not from combination fighters, even the dirty boxing that diaz is used to fighting with wont be there for him if he gets in trouble. i'd like to see diaz do good in boxing and im not saying he can't, but lets look at him in against even fringe contestants before he starts or the mma guys starts saying he can hang with this guy and match up against this guy.
it would be cool to see diaz pull something off with doing good in boxing, it would be a testament to the cloth of a true warrior, a true fighter, a pure fighter, not just a boxer or a mma guy, these are sports that you can't just dabble in, so it would be interesting to see to say the least.
one thing i will acknowledge, i have not and would never doubt the heart and determination of nick diaz, he is indomitable in those regards..........Last edited by deuce_drop; 04-18-2011, 01:48 PM.Comment
