This may very well be the fight I was thinking of...must be. My memory isn't what it once was. I just watched some clips of the fight on Youtube...BRU-TAL. People are still posting remarks on Gatti's weight advantage over Gamache!

Alex Ariza had a great point. He said that when we see guys in the ring, it's only after they've spent 1-2 months starving themselves, dehydrating, etc and we don't see them at their best. That's why Pac has been so dominant since he stopped cutting massive amounts of weight and putting on 15-20 lbs overnight. Now he eats as much as he can, keeps hydrated until a week or so before the fight, and is healthy, strong, etc.

I have no idea why more fighters don't do that

Same day weigh-ins must've been brutal back in the day since at least now guys have a day/night to eat, drink, etc. Back then they cut crazy amounts of weight, didn't get to rehydrate properly and just jumped in the ring...

Becase then fighters would be fighting way above their weight classes. Marg would at MW, JMM at WW and Montiel at LW. You get the point right?

Its all about being as big as possible in the lowest possible weight class

Gaining huge amounts of weight after the weigh in suggests that the fighter weight drained himself.

It's not always a disadvantage- some people do it to fight in lower weight classes.

I reckon this is either something new or only installed after mutual agreement?

The wegh-in for that fight was a farce as Gatti didnt really get on the scale. Gamache sued him if I remember correctly. In fact Gamache sadly endured permanent brain damage from that fight.
