The guru is picking Wlad, here are the reasons why:
1. Peter is going to have to absorb punishment to get to Wlad. Peter does look like he can take a punch, but everyman has a threshold. Brewster took a lot of punishment before getting to Wlad, but Brewster has a pretty good defense, he keeps his hands high, right to his face. Brewster also stays crouched low, making him more difficult to hit. Peter doesn’t fight like that, he seems to stand straight up. I see Peter taking a lot of jabs and right hands to get to Wlad. You might be thinking “what about Sanders, he got to Wlad”, well Sanders is a 6’4” southpaw with a sneaky, quick straight left hand. Peter is nothing like that.
2. Peter’s technique looks sloppy. His punches look somewhat slow and telegraphed.
3. Wlad is bigger, taller, has more reach and is far more experienced. He is also the superior boxer in terms of skill.
4. People picking Peter to win, keep saying all he has to is land one good punch on Wlad’s chin to beat him. Well, that’s the same thing people said when they were picking Tua and Tyson to beat Lewis. In most cases, a guy with only a puncher’s chance of winning comes up short.
5. Audley Harrison had an interesting remark regarding Peter. He stated that when they met as amateurs, Peter came out aggressively against him until Audley nailed him one good time and then he became timid, allowing Audley to win an easy decision.
6. Manny Steward, enough said.
IMO, the telling point of this fight will be in opening round. I’m sure Peter will come out aggressive and Wlad will be looking to box and jab. The first time Wlad hits peter with a hard shot, we’ll know where the fight is headed. If Peter is unphased and keeps coming after Wlad, then Wlad is in for a tough fight. If Peter is hurt, then Wlad will take him out quickly. If Peter takes it, but becomes timid than, Wlad will school him and either stop him late or take a decision.
My prediction, Peter’s aggression will leave openings for Wlad. Wlad by KO early.
