    Calzaghe Overrated

Calzaghe still isn't a notable fighter in my eyes. Ducking fighters till they're way past their prime and then calling them out isn't exactly a champion. Considering all the middleweights over the years you fight very old and clearly faded Roy Jones and almost get knocked out in first round and then get a gift in fighting B-Hop which the fight was actually a draw at best. Not impressed in the least and certainly not HOF worthy.

Didn't see the whole fight, but based on the highlights and reading the articles, it seems that JMM was simply outboxed by John - that is John's specialty.

John is a slippery boxer, but that is one of the first skills to erode, so I don't think he can outbox some of the big guns in the division now.

There is your answer there. 240 mil. Say 0.1% buys = 240k buys. Income level is much lower there but pay day for equivalent of 400k PPV is not out of the question for Chris John.

Maybe John is like Sturm at this point in his career. He's reached the point where he doesn't give a crap what people think and just figures he'll make good money against opponents who won't cause him much heartburn. The alphabet boys are at fault for making these guys "super champions" because it allows them to pick and choose opponents without ever having to fight a mandatory, or any opponent of merit for that matter

It has much cerebral content, but in one thing I do NOT agree. Chris John beat Marquez well, fairly and squarely, a clean 3 judge agreement, and those who were there have agreed that the verdict was corect. Marquez was maybe not himself because he'd recently turned down $750,000 to rematch Manny P. and then had to accept $32,500 against John.

But he unquestionably lost......... . All round.

Enough to give anyone "the pip".
Couldn't disagree more...thought the decision was awful. I know there are those who disagree, but there were also more than a few who thought the decision ******. I had it 115-110, or 7-2-3, with two even rounds when Marquez, IMO, clearly won frames where he lost points. It wasn't a particularly good fight but I thought Marquez did way more than enough to win.

He shouldn't go to the US to fight. You are saying it there, the most watched fight this weekend it's going to be there in Indonesia.

He is clearly making more money there that he could possibly be making in the US. I don't think TOP RANK is going to pay him more moeny to fight one of their superstars, because John is not really known in the US(i think) and is not going to sell there. Although, i'm not really sure how much these guy make in each fight

Besides, the only time i've seen him fight in the US was against Rocky Juarez and he was robbed bad. And i saw his fight against JMM in Indonesia and i thought he should have lost that fight, so the judges are his "friends" when he fights in his home.

This isn't a fighter like Narvaez who is not winning what he deserves for fighting less competition in his home country, he is making a lot of money there and he is more than 30 now. Why would he leave that just to "prove that he is the best"?

The only reason we are talking about him is because he used to be number one, now he is not, but nobodie beat him to get that spot. I don't think he cares about this, he is happy where he is, fighting bums

Good post, but I don't argue he should inherently return to the U.S. This is about the right fights IF there is to be a more defined career. Those can happen anywhere (though in this case that probably is made easier by travel for sure). It may be that your conclusion is right and he's happy as is. If not, the path beyond is in the ring with the right men across it.
