For one, Briggs is full of **** when he said Vitali hit harder than Lewis. Just look at the punch Lewis KO'd Rahman out with. I've never seen Vitali land a shot that hard. If he has, please direct me where I need to look. My mind is open to this. Fighters are biased too and say things for a certain reason, so just because one fighter says the other hit the hardest, doesn't necessarily mean its the truth. I've watched lots of video's on Shavers and I just don't see how anyone can come to the conclusion that he definitely hit harder than Tyson and Foreman.Comment

Prime for prime it's hard to judge since they had two different ways of generating power. I suspect a prime Shavers hit quite a bit harder with single shots than Vitali does nowadays though. Vitali tends to basically arm punch, though he occasionally generates more power from a quick twist of the torso, as he was doing against Arreola when he was strafing him with right hands. Shavers on the other hand always launched his full body weight into his right hand. Even given his smaller size that generates a lot more power than just punches from the waist or shoulders. It's also a lot more tiring, which led to Shavers's drastic mid round drop offs.
Vitali's power tends to remain more consistent throughout the fight which leads to him punishing opponents a lot more and forcing them to retire due to inability to withstand the constant steady barrage of thudding blows. Shavers could have dropped someone like Arreola but might have been unable to put him away afterwards. Wouldn't be the first time that had happened.Comment

Speed is a lot easier to measure than punching power since all you need to do is compare two videos side by side. Provided neither video is sped up or slowed down then you can quite accurately guage the quicker fighter from observation. With punching power it's a lot more tricky because so many more factors are involved. You have to take into account the physical dimensions of the puncher and the opponent, the angle at which the punch lands, the time in the fight at which the punch occurs and what has gone before, the quality of the receiver's chin etc etc. Just lots of room for error and guesswork. Generally speaking, however, if a fighter is consistently knocking down fighters and keeping them there then you can be fairly sure he's a damn hard puncher. Shavers ticks the box for the first one, but not the second. There were just far too many fighters who got up from his best shots and went on to win the fight. How many fighters do you see getting up from Tua's shots, or Jackson's or Cuevas's?Comment

Muhammad Ali and Larry Holmes fought Shavers and they said he's the hardest hitter they have ever faced.
George Foreman admitted that Shavers hit so hard that he didnt get interested in fighting him. Shavers was begging Foreman for a fight.

Sigh. Here's another challenge. How about someone, anyone, attempt to come up with an argument for Shavers that doesn't rely on what Holmes, Ali et al said. You know, actually analyse the fights and guage his power on the footage available of him. I know it can be done. If Shavers's power is truly GOAT then he won't need ringing endorsements from anyone, let alone past victors, to bolster it. It would speak for itself.Comment
