Comments Thread For: Lemieux's Trainer: David Did Not Follow The Plan

Russ Abner, the trainer for middleweight contender David Lemieux (25-1, 24KOs), said his boxer abandoned their planned strategy in the recent WBC eliminator with Marco Antonio Rubio. Last Friday at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Lemieux started strong but faded in the later rounds as Rubio took over ther fight and stopped him in the seventh.

Russ Anber is perhaps the most recognized boxing trainer/analyst in Canada. I haven't heard of Abner.

He didn't see a mirage, what he saw was a superior fighter in Rubio. And training to do something different than he always has done would have been a mistake. He fought the way he always does and it was the better fighter who won.

Be that as it may, Rubio wanted to take Lemieux to deep waters. He kept his composure and was never really hurt regardless of how aggressive Lemieux was early. The stoppage was a bit early to tell but David's chin doesn't seem good at all, a second fight would only last longer but I see the same outcome.

its obvious u know **** about rubio....

is not like hes an elite fighter.. but he aint not tomato can either.....

David.. did not follow the plan.. it was obvious that rubio wasnt going down.. after absorbing most of lemeiux POWER SHOTS....heres the thing....

david.. only throws power shots.. he doesnt know how to set a good nice combo and move and box at all... rubio just beat him with pure willingness and determination...

david only had to jab his way to a clear decision but he just couldnt.. it only took Rubio 2 Rounds to dismantle him....

He never said Rubio was a tomato can. If he had kept to the gameplan then he would have fought another can - not Rubio.

when he says keep fighting tomato cans, hes labeling Rubio as a Tomato can.

my english isnt that good.. but come on.. thats common sense.. .

besides that... that was a title shot eliminator.. so the winner was getting a title shot not seeing why they wouldn't have taken the shot to a title if David was to come out the winner....
