Why don't African-Americans support white American boxers?

On the undercard of very first pro boxing event I was ever at in the USA, there was a local white fighter facing a Black boxer from another country, I think Nigeria or some other country in Africa. I was just a small boy at that time, there with my uncle who loves boxing.

Something that really struck me as unusual was a group of a dozen or so very vocal African-American boxing fans sitting beside us, rooting for the Black clubfighter from another country to beat the local White American clubfighter in this undercard fight.

Like my uncle, they were mainly to support the local African-American fighter in the main event. But it struck me as strange that they were supporting the fighter from another country on this undercard fight, who I overheard them saying they had never heard of before, to beat the local American white guy!

Why do African-American boxing fans not support White American boxers like Pavlik and Litzau? Why would they root for a Black fighter from another country to beat a local White boxer?

Is that racist on their part?

Geeez when is it a crime to support whatever fighter you want to support?

If they want to support a black fighter, let them support a black fighter.

Can we stop complaining about what others like?

        The rest of the story:

I've been to many pro boxing events since then, and of course watched many fights on TV and videos. Nowadays with HD you can clearly see the faces in the crowd near the ring.

And everything I've seen and heard is consistent with what I saw that night as a small boy: African-Americans always supporting Black boxers (whether they are American or not) over White boxers (whether they are American or not).

So I ask again: why don't African-Americans support American white boxers?

          TS is a dumb ass...

How can you speak for EVERY BLACK AMERICAN?? I supported Pavlik against Taylor. I want Pavlik to knock his block off because i didnt like Taylor as a fighter. I wanted Joe C to beat Hopkins because i cant stand Hopkin...Hopkins sucks too much of de la hoya ass etc...But when Hopkins fought Pavlik I wanted Hopkins to win to set the clock back and beat a young man...It has nothing to do with race FOOL!

Shouldn't you be specifically addressing the people you are specifically talking about and not anyone who isn't?

If anyone of any skintone supports someone simply for the fact they have a certain skintone then yes they are racist.

Why can't you see you are doing the same thing when you say "why doesn't everyone with a certain skintone ever support someone with a different skintone"? You are practicing the same thing. I hope one day you recognize it because you are smart than that.

I am not African American/Black, but I don't think even white Americans support Americans, because of one reason: Where are they?

Where are the top active white American boxers, I don't see them. Other than Kelly Pavlik, who's barely supported by whites. And Jason Litzau.

All the top white boxers out right now, are mostly Europeans.

There are some black boxing fans that support white fighters. on NSB we have no ceilings and larryx who are both black, and like white boxers. But the majority will always root against the "white boy". You heard Bhop, they hate us.

I'm white and support all races of fighters
