Even just sparring, what a joy it is to see two fighters that skilled, especially considering how bad the divisions they competed in are now.
How old were they? Because a lot of people would probably make predictions based on that sparring, so we should know when this was. I'm a huge Hearns fan, so him at 160 vs. McClellan at 160 I think whoever lands big first wins, and that would be Hearns. -
this was back in 1990 .. dont think tommy was at his best back then .. but mclellan was a young beast ... its really a pick em fight actually if these 2 fought at 160 ... its who ever shoots first ... it could really go either way .. but what a fight it wouldve beenEven just sparring, what a joy it is to see two fighters that skilled, especially considering how bad the divisions they competed in are now.

I can't believe I have never come across this footage before. I wasn't even aware they had ever sparred.
This is obviously a much past prime Hearns Vs a young Gerald Mclellan in this footage.
Saw all of both fighters fights. Was a huge fan of the G-man all the way up to the Benn Tragedy.
I think G-man could have been a great fighter but I don't think he ever would be a Tommy Hearns level great fighter.
Hearns punishs him at 160, outboxes him and eventually stopping him.
Hearns is a different animal to G-man.Comment

I remember seeeing this a few years ago. Benn vs Mcclellan was my first fight. I triex Youtubing it and atthe time there was no fight but I did find this.
You will be surprised who spars who. There's a Benn and Duran one too.

Contrary to what other posters write, this clip showed only, skilful feinting at a safe distance, no punching, lots of nice movement and speed, including Hearns constantly backing himself into a corner with his hands down all the time etc.
I think real sparring has a little more content than this. It is historic, but only because of who they are, not for what they're doing.
Perhaps this was their feinting practice.Comment
