Why do all these "prospects" these days suck?

I don't know if that's true, but if it is it's because of the amateur system. Since it's just about scoring points many fighters fight like pussies.

Back in the day, often there was no headgear, no ****** point scoring system and you just fought. Toughens you up and gets you ready for the pro's. The amateur style of today is horrible.

I consider him a prospect because he hasn't even had a signature win, he's a 3 time titlist, but as far as i know he has never held the ring belt, i.e he's a 3 time trinket holder. The first time he stepped up he was embarrased, weather through lack of ability or his own psychological problems.

I'm not saying "sucks" as an overarching term, but Chad Dawson isn't the future of anything imo.

On the way up did Ali, Leonard,Hearns or any of the other guys we talk about produce anything remotely like that diabolical performance against Pascal?

I want to know where the next ATG is, not just an above average belt holder in an average division.

How is Ward untested. He's not untested. He just happens to be better than the best guys at his weight. Dawson hasnt been a prospect for quite a long time. There are a few guys out there that are good up and comers. Solomon's tough. Rios is good. Mares is good. There are only gonna be so many great ones. Thats why its an elite group. What I find is that the ones that are good get ****ted on for it. And the ones that are punching bags get praised for taking punches. Maybe its not the boxers that are to blame. Maybe our blindness for the talented combined with compassion for the mediocure has made boxing what it is. We've learned to have no respect for the guy that hones his boxing skills and prefer a more brutal less polished match ups.

the first time he stepped up? he had 6 wins over top 10 fighters. calzaghe had 9(8 really since eubank wasn't ranked) his entire super middle career and most of them were finished or manfredo types. i guess calzaghe was a prospect until he fought hopkins and jones.

IMO prospects are in a no-win situation with a lot of fans. Firstly, everyone sees the talent and potential they have so when they rile up 15-18 wins the bandwagon gets rolling. People talk "world champion" and put them up against the creme of the crop almost instantaneously. Instead of letting grow as a boxer/fighter, they want them thrown into the wolves at the ages of 20-23 and as soon as they lose, the entire world crashes down on them.

Then you have guys like TS who's looking for ATG type fighters with prospects. Which is impossible to tell seeing as to how they're just that.. Prospects. The second they go through adversity, a loss or even a bad outing, a lot of people turn their backs on them and look for the new up-and-comer. Give these kids a chance.. A loss will not determine if they're a bum, a hypejob or overrated. The way they pick themselves back up, most likely, will. If they get back up, dust themselves off, and climb back to the top, then who's to say they "suck" cause of a loss they had as a young prospect?
