For the people that haven't boxed before, I would like to explain why I believe Maidana's punches were ineffective, even if landed. Many, if not all of Morales punches that were landed on Maidana were flush and clean with great snap on them. Maidana's punches are opposite. He pushes with his punches, regardless if he's fatigued or not. What happens with pushing punches is that they are nullified quite easily. Note how when Morales was seemingly struck by Maidana's shots, he took them very well. This is because Erik was rolling and moving along the same direction as the punches were coming from. A fighter who used this tactic extremely well in the past was Roberto Duran. This tactic ultimately takes off the majority of the steam on the punch rendering the punch almost ineffective in comparison to a punch that has pop. Pushing punches are really only good on the inside with short range and if the target is meeting the punch half-way. Compare Maidana's right hand with Hearn's right hand. Maidana pushes with it with great natural force, where as Hearn's uses an extreme amount of snap. It's very hard to take the steam off a snapping punch, which is why Hearn's right hand was so dangerous. If Maidana had pop on his punches, who would have put Erik away, no questions. I had Erik up by 2-3 rounds because Maidana was smothering his own punches, wasn't landing clean, and when he did land, Erik was moving with the punch rendering Maidana's punch less effective than what was landed on himself.Last edited by BG_Knocc_Out; 04-10-2011, 01:16 AM.

I have always thought he had over rated power and mediocare boxing ability, just a ****er, he couldn't capitalize on Morales eye, his stock drops and he falls in that class, where he should had been. He gained nothing from this fight, he needs the rematch one to redeem that poor performance, and because right now there ain't no top dollar fight for him except Morales, I think it also takes a little a way from Khans win over Maidana.

LEGEND!
Too bad judges have no respect for the sport. Morales deserved at least the draw and the win for bringing boxing back out of the shadow of MMA for one night. If you want to know why boxing is dead in Vegas. Erik Morales just gave you the answer. They don´t make him like that anymore.
