I love this kind of fight. Cong**** to the winner but I give credit to Morales. I have a habit of dodging my head while watching boxing. I just noticed that I hold my pillow so tightly during the first rounds. =)

Erik is a very tough Mexican warrior and a True Mexican Legend

I said it before the fight and ill say it now erik fights to his level of competition, hes not only a fighter but an entertainer. and no hes not shot, in fact he may have only just shook the rust off. the thing is that may have been a 60%terrible, if he can crank it to 80%he beats maidana in a rematch easy. could it be after two years off Morales is fresh?
To my eye and mind, at best (for Morales), this fight was a draw. But, regardless, you cannot honestly think Morales looked anything like he did during his prime. His was fatigued and his legs appeared a little wobbly basically every time Maidana pressured. Maidana looked like he just learned to box (save for the combinations on the ropes), but Morales did not look like an elite fighter. It was great to watch him out-box and get the best of Maidana, but lets not lose perspective. This invariably happens when a fighter who is a decided underdog is competitive in a fight -- people's perceptions become skewed, and competitive rounds become clear rounds for the underdog. I don't know if Morales is shot (whatever that means to you), but he's definitely passed it. This is one of those fights where you have to wonder to what degree each fighter contributed to the outcome. I'd say this fight says slightly more about how Maidana's limitations than it does about where Morales is right now relative to the elite in a division for which he is probably too small, anyway.

Kudos to Morales. He certainly proved his detractors wrong. Before the fight, people were concerned for his health. After, they're concerned about the scoring.

Yeah, I think that if that first round uppercut hadn't landed perfectly to **** up that eye, Morales wins but then again, if a frog had wings, he wouldn't bump his ass. It could also be said that Morales started way too cautiously and I think he had an adjustment from not being the much taller fighter as he was in most of his fights. Several times when it got heated he duck or lean to throw then would straighten when he realized he could. I think Madiana got WAY too much credit for throwing punches at least by Lampley's call and compubox stats, Morales was rolling about 80% of the punches that Madiana was "landing". He really landed way more shots, way more clean shots, and for the most part harder shots than Madiana. I have it recorded and am going watch more with a scoring eye again tomorrow but I thought Morales won from first watch. Then again, he did give away the first 2 from rust and the last two from fatigue so it's a hard decision to get irate about.

You, and a lot of other folks, have not been paying attention. If you just tonight discovered that Maidana has limited skill, then you haven't watched many of his fights. Maidana was far and away the most overrated fighter in the sport coming into this fight.

i just saw morales in an interview say maidana doesn't hit as hard as people think,he hits hard but not like we all think he does,i'll say this,i thought morales would get ko'd early,i even said at end of first round it would end by the third, man morales gained my respect big time, being older, beat up and out of his weight class he gave maidana all he could handle, maidana was even backing up,something i never thought he would do against erik...it was a close fight and just because it was close morales deserves all the respect in the world going 12 against a much younger, stronger fighter,we all thought he would get brutally ko'd

Great Card!!! The Maidana vs Morales fight was a great fight!! I was 1 of the many or most that thought Maidana was gonna steamroll over Morales & ¿WAS I WRONG!? Even thou it was a close fight, I thought Maidana won, but the fight Morales put up was just AMAZING!!! Just when I thought Maidana had it in the bag, Morales just turned it around with his No Give Up & Come Back Swinging attitude!! It seems like Maidana suffers from what I call "Miguel Cottoism"(gets hit with ALL upper cuts!) Morales must have landed almost every upper he threw & even thou Maidana was gasping for aire from about the 8th on, Maidana just kept on swinging..I don't recall ever seeing Morales or Maidana in a bad or boring fight, they are just exciting fighters that leave it all in the ring & give the fans THEIR MONEYS WORTH!! It was just a great fight!! Props to both fighters..Just to think that a lot of people(especially SCUMBAG Arum) were criticizing De La Hoya for putting together the Maidana/Morales fight, now THEY ARE ALL EATING THEIR WORDS & ALL THE S H I T THEY TALKED!! Props to De La Hoya's "Golden Boy Productions" for putting on a great show!! All the fights(at least the televised 1's)were good!! Haven't seen a show like that(where all the fights were good) in a while!!
