Kirkland would still murk Cotto. Cotto will never fight another top 154 pounder ever again after Foreman. Kirkland would of beaten Mayorga a lot sooner than Cotto did that night as well. Kneetards are pathetic like the *****s.Comment

yeah he'd been wobbled and dropped but it was always because he was off balance or didn't see the punch coming. When he was dropped he would get up at the count of one and then proceed to destroy his opponent.
I mean the punching power of Julio is obviously much more than Ishida and he ate Julio's shots with no trouble at all. And he ate quite a few bombs from Julio.
With Ishida it was literally the first clean shot that landed on him dropped him. And he was hurt, as he didn't recover. There is a difference there.
Kirkland helped a lot with the first KD. Ishida threw the left on the button and Kirkland added more damage by basically running into it when he lunged up to throw his left.
The next 2 KD's were from straight rights and Ishida threw them fast and on the button as well. Everything was probably happening too fast for James to notice what was going on. Combination of his underestimating the opponent, not expecting the first round to be like this, and Ishida's speed and accuracy.
With Julio, he probably came in expecting to be hit w/ bombs so was prepared to take them. Like you pointed out with punches he didn't see coming, I think that was the case tonight.
Everything happened too fast and too early.Comment

I think the biggest part of it is Kirkland probably underestimating his opponent.

"everything happening too fast" is exactly what happens to a guy who's been out of boxing for that long. It's the same in football, if you ever watch you always hear commentators talk about a guy who's been injured for a long time and he comes back in a game for the first time and they say something like, "he's just not adjusted to the speed of the game yet". Same type of thing for kirkland I think, he's not in boxing shape. He's physically in good shape, but not boxing shape.
When your a wild brawlers you did to get off balance when you throw so it's not that weird that featherfist ishida was able to drop him. Yet he's been fighting guys he was suppose to crush in 2 rounds then only 3 weeks later fights a live opponent. It's understandable. He'll be back from this. Just needs Anne Wolfe back though and a full camp for a live fighter like this.Comment

Not to mention i am sure Kirkland would train alot harder to fight Cotto than Ishida who I am sure he thought he walk through.Comment

^ Exactly. The man fought 2 bums in a row he was suppose to KO in 1-2 rounds then trained only 3 weeks to fight somebody else was suppose to crush but was actually a live fighter.
Not to mention he needs to get use to the speed of things like Natas said. You can't just not spar and fight for 2 years, trash 2 bums who didn't stand a chance, then go against a live fighter on 3 weeks training and expect him to KO the man in 3 rounds. And don't think I'm making excuses because I said it on the original thread by Comedian when this fight was made he would have problems but hopefully could get the KO.
Your ******ed if you think Plaxico Burress is going to come out of jail and start dominating in the NFL again after a year in jail. Same damn thing.Comment

Wladimir Klitschko got stopped by Ross Purity, Cory Sanders, and Lamon Brewster, Amir Khan KTFO by Breidis Prescott, etc.
**** happens, Kirkland will be back destroying opponents and Arum will still never let Cotto fight him to prove who would win a fight between them.
Cotto could be able to keep Kirkland off balance with his jab and timing, but Kirkland would still be a nightmare for him. He doesn't have an iron chin, but *****s act like he still isn't bigger, stronger, relentless, pressure fighter, who has solid power and great output (sound familiar?). If you think Cotto would win easy because of what happened tonight... (fill in the blank)Comment
