did you guys want boxingfans opinion or was this thread meant for *******s and *****s, imho you cant ask the *******s or *****s these questions cuz all they do is downplay fighters that arent there daddys, now for the question cotto didnt put his power in the shots he threw at margarito thats why he lost and for margarito to beat floyd he would have to be faster then floyd and be a good boxer wich he isnt all i see is floyd in the middle of the ring landing shots on margarito all night and if you think floyd dont have power then you are wrong i could tell you this he has more power than cotto thats for sure

      Ummm... Lets see.

One has World Class possibly ATG defense, the other has average defense for the era.

Anybody that doesn't have something negative to say about Floyd is a *****. You said the same thing many of us have been pointing out. I haven't seen any evidence that Marg can do better than any of Floyds other opponents. Pac is the only matchup that matters.

Floyd has better defense, faster/longer hands, and is an all around better boxer than Cotto. It will be a lot easier for Floyd to keep Margarito off him than it was for Cotto.

Also, Floyd knows how and when to clinch, Margarito doesn't.

Don't let Floyd's alleged fear of Manny make u forget how good he really is. Floyd vs Manny may be a toss-up, but Floyd vs Everyone else is a blowout.

Pacman moved around the ring with relative ease against Margarito. The difference maker between Cotto and the likes of a Pacman and Floyd are in the FOOTWORK and handspeed... I posted this in the past when someone was asking the same question. Cotto has GOOD footwork, that being said he doesn't in the least bit have QUICK footwork. Floyd has ring smarts and elite footwork that can be matched by no one in the sport. He can move on a dime and loves to box going backwards... as evidenced by his knockdown of Hatton which he accomplished while backing up. Cotto has superb boxing technical skills, but by trade he likes to come forward and had never had to go backwards before THAT fight. His backing up made him lose steam on all his punches because he WASN'T sitting on his punches. Surprisingly, he still showed some pop while backing up but it wasn't the usual Cotto power. People like to entertain a notion that Margarito's aggressive style would create problems for Floyd... Floyd's one of a kind speed keeps his opponents honest. The other thing that people don't get is that Floyd actually DOES have PUNCHING POWER. This is what continually surprises people he faces. They all figure they'll chase him and walk right through and end up standing right in front of him with their hands up in respect instead. His KO ratio has more to do with his defensive style and less to do with his ACTUAL punching power. He DEFINITELY isn't rearranging anyone's face or anything like that but he can POP.

All in all, Margarito is TOO slow, TOO under-talented, TOO wide open, TOO untechnical for Floyd.

7 people have beaten Tony, I think Floyd might be able to figure him out...

Lets just hope he stops fighting his wife and gets in the ring and that Fat Bob stops ****ing around also...

Mayweather was leaving Arum when the Marg fight came about and would had to sign a 3 fight deal to fight Margarito which means 3 more fights under Arum, instead he fought the WBC champ Baldomir for 8,000,001 dollars 1 more dollar than Arum offered as a slap in the face. Arum attempted to get a Cotto fight at 140 with Cotto, handlers said he wasn't ready. moving on Margaritos pressure is not that effective, it looked great against Cintron and Cotto but against who else, Floyd would turn him all night and it won't matter if the shots hurt or not because Floyd won't be there when Marg finally throws, its a wash and if you think otherwise watch more boxing, oh and Chavez was a hell of a boxer, who was applying effective pressure but Floyd adapted and I believe the corner stopped the fight in the ninth with scorecards of 89-82 and 88-83, so wrong fight to pick, the first Castillo fight would be the best fight to pick.in that situation but every fighter has that gut check, and that's when you really see how great that boxer is

And let's say for a second floyd has an incredible workrate, which he doesn't. He still wouldn't be able to hurt Margarito enough to slow him down.

Sure he's got his legs, but marg is a master at closing space, and even if he runs track for 6 rounds, marg is eventually gonna walk him down.

Or he'd be boo'd so much for running(because he'll have to run the entire 3 minutes of every round to be safe) that he'd be forced to fight, or everybody loses respect.
Simple: positioning and timing. floyd could stand in the center of the ring and simply turn his body and roll with every punch margarito could throw. he wouldn't let margarito "walk him straight back". floyd could also put in more accurately timed counters, thus more effect, even though he can't hit as hard as cotto.

                    • I'll keep saying this.. At this point in Marg's career, without his secret weapon, he's finished beating top fighters.
