Rember Evander Holyfield vs Rid**** Bowe III in 1995?

You guys must be pretty recent boxing fans to forget about this one. Rid**** knocked out Evander and it was on Showtime I believe. The commentators were going on about "But what did he beat?" The following year he upset Mike Tyson. As Manny-Shane is compared to now it's like they are throwing a piece of dead meat to a knockout artist. I don't even like Evander. Biggest headbutt cheater the sport has ever known. He needs to retire already as well. But if Shane beats Manny that's what I would compare it to. They are not saying half the stuff they were saying about Evander, then that they are saying about Shane now. I'm a Pacfan but always first and foremost I'm a boxing fan that is 'Pessimistic' about hype. Remember to bump this thread if I'm proved right.

'Tis funny how Holyfield was considered shot after the loss Bowe in that third fight (coming so soon after the loss to Moorer,) but prime for his rematch with Lewis. And yeah, Evander was a pretty huge dog against Tyson, though he shouldn't have been, since Mike never returned to his pre-prison form.

Holyfield did look like ass against Bowe in that fight, he was a well deserved huge underdog to Tyson.

Usually guys do not turn it around in boxing Holyfield caught a good math-up like Mosley did against Margarito, doubt he has it in him again.

thanks tiger! I had loaded pallet full of doors fall on my head. In the hospital they told my mom I'd still have a good memory.

so you think people underestimate Mosley more than Evander was ?

              I doubt it

Evander was, if my memory serves me right, a 42 or something to 1 underdog before fighting Tyson, precisely because he had lost some fights and looked on the slide

Mosley is what right now ? the odds ? probably under 10 to 1

No, but the way people have built it as a crap fight. Take this as a comparison and ask me is it really warranted? Stack that on the fact that Mosley's never been knocked out. Been outclassed but never knocked out.

Evander had a very good shot of winning that fight. he just got caught and got kayoed.

He also hurt Bowe and knock him down with plenty of time left. But Bowe was able recuperate pass with continuous killers jabs that halts Vander's assaults.

maybe Evander looks like it in the Moorer fight but not this one.

13 years later Holyfield nearly upset Nicolay Valuev. Even though Holyfield was a decade past his prime, perhaps he exposed the sad state the heavyweight division was in.
