Not sure where you come from, but most if not all civilized and modernized countries have taxes that are paid from the inhabitants. Its how we function as a society. We pay taxes and the government has the obligation to utilize the funds to better our countryOK... you pay tax to teh man... what man? some random guy on teh street? Whats the point in that?Originally posted by SnoopySmurfNot trying to start an argument with you....but how old are you? You should know that roads, schools, hospitals etc are funded by tax collections. Every working person has to pay taxes in their country. Even sports celebrities. No one is excluded.Comment

It affords the standard of living that we enjoy here.
We pay taxes to the government, which in turn invest that money into US treasuries, other foreign governments, they pay medical care for the elderly and impoverished, they fund public education, they financially insure housing for nearly half the United States, they also pay out for Social Security. They ensure the roads we have and all that stuff. They pay for defense
This seems pretty elementary. We pay taxes so that Americans enjoy the stuff they enjoy
And annually, we receive a refund on a portion of the taxes that we've paidComment

so why do you also pay taxes to the state? What are the state taxes for?It affords the standard of living that we enjoy here.

Because some of the programs are funded by the states. Local roads are covered by the states. Roads that are interstate are covered by the federal government.
The states are primarily tasked to cover many medicare and education. They receive help from the federal government. Each state has its own run government that deal with issues at the local and state level.
The same reasons we pay the federal government, we pay the state. At a much lower rate. Whatever shortfalls the states have, the federal government covers.Comment
