I didn't think it mattered how many fights they've had at Welter, as long as they're campaigning at welter now. And neither did you, you used Jose Cotto as your journeyman and he's a career lightweight.
So yes, really.Comment

I thought he was a light weight
but in any weight he is a journeymanComment

to me hype is done by the general public
its the job of the promoters and trainers to hype their fighters.
I havent heard any hype about victorComment

Here you go homie, feel free to object if you see fit.
1 A great fighter: Mayweather
2 A good fighter: Cotto
3 A journeyman: David Estrada
4 A prospect: Mike Jones/ Jessie Vargas
5 A Bum: n/a
6 A hype job: Joshua ClotteyComment

Ortiz is a hype because he magically appeared on the top WW list without any fights in my book.
I cant see Clottey as a hype but a journeyman.Comment

I chose Estrada because he was not quite a gatekeeper and less of a contender than Clottey. Clottey never seals the deal, that's why I put him in the hype category.Comment

Fair enough.
I think it's a combo of the promoter/network and the public. The promoter/network doesn't spend the money to make those little hype pieces, like the one with Victor's dad, until they have a little buy-in from the public.
Generally I think of hype as anyone who is talked about as the next big thing without actually beating a top tier fighter.
And I do agree it is the promoter's job to hype, but if they wanna get the most **** for their buck they'll hype the fighter who can actually back it up. Thus far I just don't think Victor has. But I'm not writing him off.Comment

I think Berto is more hype than Ortiz. He has been champ for a minute and has yet to beat a top 10 WW if Im not mistaken. But I see your point on Victor.Fair enough.
