Comments Thread For: Nietes Close To a Shot at The WBO Junior Flyweight Crown

WBO minimumweight champion Donnie "Ahas" Nietes of the famed ALA Gym is on the verge of a light flyweight title shot but first he must win impressively against Mexico’s Armando Vazquez at the La Salle Coliseum in Bacolod City on Saturday.

Nietes should move up because he's not doing anything at minimumweight. He hasn't defended against an opponent with a pulse in 1 1/2 years and this latest opponent is another KO waiting to happen. Vasquez was ko'd three consecutive fights, then beat a guy with a 2-0 record and another with an 0-2 record. This shouldn't last long

Dude, I read the post. The inflection apparently didn't register. I am agreeing with you and the writer and saying he should move up. He's been WBO beltholder for 3 1/2 years and hasn't fought anyone with a pulse for a while, so if he's not planning on trying to unify, he might as well move up and win another title. Maybe jr. flyweight will be more profitable and he can get a match with Gonzalez

You are being thick in the head. It meant Nietes was challenged by all those Mexicans. The Mexicans offered him purse money for the belt and so Nietes went to Mexico to defend the belt. Obviously, Mexicans won't waste a dime inviting a champion they think their boxer won't be able to win against with. Get it? Nietes defended his belt in MEXICO. Not his fault those Mexican boxers didn't live up to expectation that they will knock him out.

That's because those boxers were bums...and Vargas, the only decent one he faced was robbed.

No dude, you're being a dolt. Nietes fought a total crappy, D-level 10-5-3 setup last time in Mexico and called it a "title defense."Anyone with half a brain knew he'd win against his nothing opponent. He hasn't fought anyone with a pulse since Vargas, and Vargas hasn't beaten anyone since. My point is he needs to fight better opposition or just move up

Exactly, just like Viloria vs. Solis. Solis met a nonbum Pinoy and boom, he got KOed. I agree with you Hector!!

And this one too is a great example!!
