Comments Thread For: Pirog Reflects on Maciel Win, Responds to Sergio Martinez

On Saturday, March 26, Dmitry Pirog (18-0, 14 KOs), the WBO middleweight titleholder and the only active Russian fighter to hold a credible piece of world championship in any of seventeen weight classes, had a hard night and needed to dig a little deeper for a difficult victory over uncharacteristically durable and resistant Argentinean Javier Francisco Maciel (18-2, 12 KOs).

          I agree

inactivity won't help him make a name for himself and hopefully get a Martibez shot either

the kid has an interesting, awkward style

I hope he gets his wish

Sturm would be a good start if he could get him

            don't be ******ed

it's the kind of fight that needs to be built-up a bit

if they both keep on winning, this fight could be big 1 or 2 years from now

if it happens now, Pirog will be dismissed as a bum if he loses, he just hasn't achieved much yet

Pirog has to fight more frequently and better opposition. He has to build himself a bit more to show he is the real deal. If Maciel was enough to annoy him Martinez will put the hurt in him.

Good fighter but has to stay active

Well, that must be a joke, because Sergio Martinez would destroy Pirog. As good as Pirog is, he is not in Maravilla's class. He'll beat Bute too. Andre Ward would be tough though.

Martinez already ducked Pirog once and he then ducked Zbik. Both were his mandatories. Martinez ducked and dodged both of them.

He knows he would get KO'd by Pirog and he won't go to 168 cause both Bute and Froch would box circles around him. Don't forget that Martinez got a draw against Cintron, is 1-1 against Pwill, fought a weight drained alcoholic Pavlic and beat a 154 who never fought at 160 before.
