'Sugar'....Does Shane really deserve it?

Well, exactly is stretching it. But their approach is similar. Combine boxing skills (MUCH more in Robinson's case) with awesome athletic talents, throw every punch like it's their last. And the way they throw their punches, they move very similarly. The resemblance is definitely there.Comment

I can agree with similar.Well, exactly is stretching it. But their approach is similar. You highlight how Robinson so much more skilled but that really seperates thier style IMO. Robinson's skill level is so so so so much higher than Shane's, and it's so clear to see even by just watching a highlight of both.
Robinson's defence is also lightyears better and different than Shane almost none existent defence. Robinson slips shots, and avoids shots much much different and better to how Shane trys to.
Robinson could dance and fight when he wanted to, could switch from fleet footed and planting his feet on the inside ripping uppercuts to the body. I can't recall Shane ever doing that.
And many other things but I won't go into that.
Like I said I can agree there is a resemblance, sometimes when Robinson thorws his right hand and left hook it looks abit like Shanes.
But there is a clear distince difference IMO. And Robinson can do so much more than Shane.Last edited by IronDanHamza; 03-31-2011, 10:33 AM.Comment

How on earth is there a stigma attached to the name Sugar?Does he deserve it in what premise?
Anyone can use the moniker if they want to, and it doesn't automatically mean using "sugar" readily attributes them to SRL or SRR.
However, the stigma of the nickname will always be linked to the past ATGs who used it, so the comparison won't be avoided.Comment

He has had a damn good career even with some losses, fighters are bound to lose sometime fighting the comp he has.Comment

Hell no!
Dude is a steroid using cheater, he doesn't deserve to brand himself with such a legendary nick name.Comment

It's just a nickname. Other guys have had the Sugar nickname. Mosley is no Leonard or Robinson, but a HOFer in his own right.
There's nothing wrong with Mosley having the nickname. He "deserves" it, whatever that truly means.
I wouldn't say "stigma"...it's more like "high expectations". You're using the same nickname as two ATGs.
That other guy with the same nickname offered Pryor a career high payday for a fight. Pryor wanted more money.
Of course, in today's boxing forum logic, a verbal challenge in front of cameras means more than, you know, actually negotiating and signing for a fight.Comment
