The Racket Squad: Race To The Moon

I love the headline for this thread.
'Alvarez Begins Training For June 18 HBO Defense.'
That just about sums it up.
He will be defending HBO's credibility and boxing ratings, not some WWE style title.

The fact that this will take place in Mexico is about money, not race.
But if Rhodes is not the opponent, it will be just another roll in the Hay with Kellerman extolling the virtues of the 'prodigy'.

Just add Tommy Z. to the card and the 'hype' sandwich will be complete.
There we have another kind of race:
A 'race' to use the NFL to fill square circle seats

    Enough Said.

That being said, how is this a PPV fight? If a promoter wants to do an independent PPV, I have no problem with that, but why would HBO make this a PPV fight - that's ridiculous
Maybe the nubers for his last fight were to big to ignore?

So, now they think they can charge $40+ for a title defense of Saul Alvarez. Give me a break, I will save my cash...

What a ****!!! Alvarez did good numbers cuz he was on hbo for free. Cotto was on ppv as in you have to pay to see it. On a night the hottest guy in boxing (Martinez) fought for free too so just put 2 and 2 together moron.

the only Reason jotto was on PPV was cuz of his fanbase and the only reason it people watched was cuz of mayogra's trash talk and he looked like **** for a guy who had only 1 fight in 2010 imgaine if he fought martinez KO IN THE 1st

I agree. Alvarez might be able to pull 150K or 200K for a fight against a guy like Rhodes whom nobody knows but imagine how many people would watch if it were on free HBO. Instead of near record numbers on HBO, you will get low end PPV numbers and less viewers. It just seems the wrong way to build a 'prospect' (disregard that Alvarez has a belt, he is a prospect/contender). I won't pay to see Alvarez until he is in with a really good and known fighter, even though I believe Rhodes might be able to beat him. Plus, knowing HBO, they will show the fight a week later for free anyway. I will be saving my money and go that route...

If Alvarez had to fight Rhodes for the title in the first place rather than the title being bought for him and having Matthew Hatton placed in front of him to try and convince the public this was a proper "world title fight" then he would have lost and would be in no position to be on PPV. They might as well get a PPV out of him as once the public watches Rhodes pick him apart it will be a long time coming before he is a PPV draw again.

Sergio has only had 4 first round KO's and all of those were against guys with as many wins as losses or losing records. I highly doubt he would KO Cotto or Mayorga in the early rounds, Cotto's got much better defense than he get's credit for and Mayorga is tough as nails. I am not saying they wouldn't lose or get KO'd, but definitely not in the early rounds, that's for sure...
