Call me modern, soul/pride-less, unpatriotic or even an infidel if you want. i think it's pretty lame to always root for your countrymen. makes no sense. if you're mexican, puerto rican, african american, filipino, white or whatever else, it's not like you had a choice in the matter. maybe because there isn't a venezuelan/ecuadorian champ our there is why i feel this way. highly doubt it though. i'm a fan of boxing, not of dudes who i share some similar physical characteristics with.

If root for many fighters but, I also root for my countrymen. I don't solely root for japanese fighters. I guess it's a way of showing pride for one's country.

Here's my take on the whole "rooting for your countryman" thing.

I think it's ok to take pride in one's country and the fighters they produce, like Mexico, Cuba, Philippines and PR.

The problem comes when that's all you see, when you are blind to anything else like borderpatrol or any of these other idiots.

I look at fighters and if they are good, they are good. I don't care too much for Floyd the man but Floyd the fighter is special.

it is not the rooting for your countryman that is a problem. the problem is imo when you find any excuse to denigrate or tear down any fighter that is his oponnent.

lol. i'd understand if i were PR for example and related to cotto. i'd root for a family member all the time. that makes sense. supporting family is one thing, blindly rooting for a dude even when it's obvious he doesn't stand a chance only because you share the same national anthem is a whole nother' thing. kinda' character/intellect revealing too imo...
