If you always root for your countrymen, how can you claim you're a fan of the sport?

"real" boxing fans shouldnt even be fans of fighters. They should never root for a fighter, because its enough for them to jsut watch the sport lol

floyd is asking his countrymen to root for him

Another thing is that different countries make up different styles. For example, American style of boxing is very slick and technical, same with PR and Cuba for example.

I think where you come from determines the type of style and make up a fighter will have. You reflect the country and place you are from.

Mexican style of boxing is stereotyped as being a brawlers style, even though there have been many great technical boxers to come from Mexico. The difference is, they choose to brawl because it's the Mexican mentality to do so.

So people tend to gravitate to the style they like the most or think is best. At the same time, they put down other styles they see as inferior or aesthetically not appealing.

For me, it depends on the individual. I can appreciate a boxer like Pernel as much as I can appreciate a brawler like Margarito. To me they are one in the same because they use what their strengths are to win fights and that is the most important thing at the end of the day.

I think it's ok to take pride in one's country and the fighters they produce, like Mexico, Cuba, Philippines and PR.

The problem comes when that's all you see, when you are blind to anything else like borderpatrol or any of these other idiots.

I look at fighters and if they are good, they are good. I don't care too much for Floyd the man but Floyd the fighter is special.
I root for my countrymen every single time. I am a bigger fan of Puerto Rico than I am of boxing. No apologies.

And for this clown quoted above, to pretend he is not biased is fackin ridiculous. He knows the routine. Fack Mexican fighters. War Montiel.

To me, national borders don't really mean much, there are fighters I like from many countries:

              USA - Rios
              Wales: Cleverly
              Ukraine: Klitschkos
              Russia: Lebedev
              Poland: Adamek
              Phillipines: Pacquiao
              Mexico: JMM

              etc.

I feel ya. I'm Nica and yes Arguello is one of my favorite fighters, but Mayorga isn't.

It should come down to the skill and entertainment value not the nationality.

I understand supporting your countryman, but some people take it too far.

Baya, I think I told this story before.

I was in a house full of Boricuas when Oscar fought Tito. I had a total of $450 on the fight with like 4 different vatos.

At the end of the fight (this is the honest to God truth) before the decision was announced, they ALL pulled out their money to give it to me because they thought Oscar won that fight.

When they decision was announced, they told me I didn't have to pay because it was a BS decision. I paid anyway because that's the way I am, you pay your bets no questioned asked.

Then a few months later, they denied ever saying Oscar won and were praising Tito for such a great victory....hahaha

They were all my homeboys so it was all good.
