If you always root for your countrymen, how can you claim you're a fan of the sport?

I personally dont give a ***** where a fighter is from, If youre good and enjoyable to watch then i would watch your fights, download and support you, I hate when media try to shove fighters down my throat and i get that a lot over here in England, I have been accuse of been unpatriotic because am not hanging off Hatton's nuts in the past but i never rated him one bit.

I definitely root for Mexicans first because of their poverty but I root for all my Latino brothers along with Mexicans. Here's how I see it: Even though my family has been here since before there was a U.S.A. I root for Mexicans first, Chicanos second because my Mexican brothers are poorer and don't have the same help as Chicanos do with food and housing. I'll root for a Chicano against anybody other than a Mexican because Chicanos are more discriminated against than other Hispanic-Americans. If it's 2 non-Mex Hispanic-Americans I root for the guy who's got the best character, like I would have done between Miguel Cotto and Demetrio Caballos if I'd been following boxing. If it's a Hispanic-American like Gamboa vs a Hispanic from Nicaragua then I'd root for the Nica even though I really like Gamboa. I recently saw a food show taped in Nicaragua hosted by Anthony Bourdain. Even though the show was about food the subject of poverty couldn't be avoided. The host was really moved by the plight of the Nicaraguans and had to fight back tears. Lastly, if a Hispanic non-American is being disrespectful in a personal way like Mayorga was vs Cotto or Trinidad then I'll root against him because I'll lose sympathy for him even though he doesn't have the same help with subsidies as do Cotto and Trinidad-- if they ever needed it.

I'm British and my favourite current fighters are Cotto, Gamboa, Mayweather and Dawson. I take a liking to style's and whether I enjoy watching the fighter, not where he is from.

Simple for me. I root for the underdog if for example niether of the two boxers fighting i am a fan of.

you're right. i'm half venezuelan though and my uncles loved valero. did i? thought he was pretty good, still, you didn't see me being a cheerleader for him. if you're a good boxer, i like you. could give 2 ****s about where you're from. it's so silly. if people were like this with other forms of entertainment like music for example, the world would be full of tasteless-tacky music aficionados.

with this logic, i assume you're a huge fan of african boxers. after all, africa probably has more problems per square foot than any other continent in the world. if not, you're just a proud dude for no reason. it's not like you had a choice in being mexican. totally by chance.
