Pirog is a joke, believe that.

I think most would agree that Sturm is the number 2 guy. I myself would have a few other guys that have proven themselves against stiffer competition(hard to do in that poor division) ahead of Pirog as well. Sylvester and Lee comes to mind off the top of my head. Also that guy from France(can't remember his name) who is undefeated has accomplished just as much as Pirog as well. Not saying Pirog wouldn't beat Sylvester but that isn't how I rank fighters. I rank fighters strictly on what they have proven in the ring.Last edited by Check; 03-26-2011, 06:42 PM.Comment

Lee spent most of his last fight getting beat. Credit to him for coming up with the right stuff when it mattered, he closed the show in style, but I don't see McEwan as better than Jacobs, and Pirog looked a lot better in his win over a prospect than Lee did in his.
Calling Pirog a joke seems ridiculous to me. Unlike the other guys you mention (apart from Lee) he went to the US, accepted a smaller share of the purse and fought on a promotion where they clearly wanted him to lose. Very few boxers would do that. Sturm did it vs DLH and I give him credit for that, but that was a long time ago and he was paid a lot more than Pirog received.Comment

And with that the Pirog hot air balloon begins to inflate. I love how certain fighters can look exciting against terrible talent and be called the next big thing. Yet, a guy that may not be as exciting(in this case he is more exciting) is fighting the very best and being called overrated, a ducker, or just not that good. There is a difference between fighting 20 year old prospects and fighting top P4P fighters in the world. Pirog is nothing, has never been anything and will continue to fight in high school gyms in Russia. Another Eastern European that is protected and yet to fight world caliper opponents but get hyped up like no tomorrow. People ***** about Americans being hyped, it's time to look in your own backyard. That's real talk.
I laughed at people saying "oh, it's the next Roy Jones. Look how he fights, kid is cut from another cloth." GTFO, it's easy to look great against guys that you're overmatched. It's time to put up or shut up. I'm sick of people on here overrating fighters that haven't ever face a top fighter. Golovkin will probably be on that list next if he gets some brass and steps up to the plate.
Stop it.
When a non-American fights I don't think you should comment, honestly.Comment

Sturm has ducked him, N'jikam has too at least 3 times...
Yes well alot of Cubans fight with amateur point getting pitty pat styles. Not all Amateurs fight like that ie: Golovkin. Same way that anyone who watches Pirog can tell he has talent.
You're bereft of any actual boxing insight though and that's why these blatantly obvious things evade you and why your posts emanate such an entertaining ignorance.Comment

It's no wonder Martinez is calling out Floyd, Pac and Cotto what with most of the top MWs these days being untested. Disappointing performance by Pirog today, but I wouldn't call him a joke just yet.
With Sturm continuing to duck everyone with a pulse, I consider Golovkin the best challenge for Martinez at MW right now.Comment

Joke was probably the wrong word to use. I'm calling him a joke when talking about his lofty expectations. People think he actually has a chance to beat the best fighter in the world. I don't see a fighter that can do that in Pirog. Just because Pirog doesn't fight like the typical European doesn't mean he is special.Comment
