I doubt it would have made that big a difference. Margarito would have just pushed him off and stuffed uppercuts into his head, he was the bigger man.

the only way it would have saved him was if it was a ****ty ref who automatically paused the action every time the fight got to close range.

clinching is illegal. refs need to realize this more often.

Yeah, it was those vicious uppercuts that did the most damage...they happened early in the fight and between the broken nose, swallowing blood most of the fight, his endurance was ***ed. His endurance was fine in the Mosley and Clottey fights, his 2 other most difficult ones he won.

Cotto's defense against uppercuts suck. Work on that and he's a got a good chance on avenging that loss. His confidence seems to be ok, especially after the Mayo fight, regardless of what anybody says about mayo performance, Cotto needed that win and got it.

if he lost to Mayo i doubt he would have the confidence he needs to beat marg.

This says more about the state of mexican boxing, than it does about Cotto. All they have is this "victory" by plaster. If Chavez JR. was a real fighter, they would have already admitted the obvious, thrown Margarito under the fackin bus already and gone on with being Mexicans. But when you have nothing, but a hyped up redhead, an old JMM who got abused by Floyd, and 1 Capetillo fighter (suspect) named Segura, you lose sight of reality.

Nice to see a true cotto fan with knowledge and logic. You seem to have some education as opposed to other guys in this thread. Cotto hasn't been impressive vs clottey(although he showed true warrior guts by fighting with cut), foreman, and mayorga. Margarito hasn't looked good in his fights vs mosley and paquiao, but then again those styles will always beat margarito. Boxing/Speed is his worst enemy. That's why cotto, needs to focus on that if he wants to have any chance against margo. If he does what he did in the first fight: head hunt, run....Then it's going to be another nasty loss for him. Cotto's instinct is to fight and when you stop and trade with Margarito you'll likely get the worst of it. Looking forward to the rematch.

yea i thought that 24/7 would be very good to run! If the fight happens I'm sure it'll get done. Who knows if it'll be on HBO or Showtime. Showtime is starting to grow on me

With Steward in his corner and a good gameplan Cotto has a chance to win a close decision. If Cotto gasses again than Margarito by TKO. I forsee a trilogy.

as much as i love Cotto he aint 24/7 material... He wont discuss the wraps or trash talk. I dont think Manny Stewart would want the 24/7 either. I think if Cotto can clinch he will win but more importantly go to the body. I think in the first fight all he was told is Margarito can be hit up top all day and too concentrate on that. Margs i think is done. Too many wars i think has taken their toll. He has never been the same since the Cotto fight. Well thats my opinion. WAR COTTO
