What do you think they could have done better management wise? He's been matched pretty tough from the beginning, yet gets no credit for it. You think Sturm or JCC is willing to fight him? You think a "name" like Manfredo would rather get destroyed by Pirog on Espn2 for 10k, or fight a beatable JCC on HBO for 150k? Has Quillin ever shown any interest? Pete's called out Geale, and so has Pirog. I somehow suspect the no2 contender takes the Siaca/Adama route.

According to GMontoya HBO has little interest in showing Pirog. Why do you suppose that is, given that he's an exciting fighter who delivered the one time they brought him in (as a patsy, to be sure)? You think the big time promoters in the US are itching to sign a non-English speaking Russian with a mini mullet? DiBella is having a hard enough time marketing an dynamic, good looking, Spanish speaking champ.

I got a cracking idea. Unless Macklin is already lined up for Martinez, you should suggest DiBella matches Macklin with Pirog on the next Martinez undercard. LDB understandably thinks Pirog does not deserve to fight Martinez, so lets make this an eliminator. Macklin may have dodged Pirog once, but this time there's the WBO belt and an HBO date in play.
Why is it HBO or bust? And I thought the idea floated last week was great; if they could get a Geale, in that case on HBO, it's an awesome way to pressure Martinez. Macklin would be good too. Pirog is better than Lee or Barker by a bit. That's why he's going to be forced to earn his shot the hard way. Tale as old as boxing. Absent that, getting your guy on the air in the same place where the champ is drawing his revenue is imperative. That's where his people have failed him.

The next Middleweight wave is on the cusp. I just want to see it come together.

It's not, like you said it's just the most effective way of forcing Martinez' hand. LDB is not putting Sergio in with no Espn level fighter. And you can't begrudge a paper champ for going after the Man (who's beltless!). AFAIK, SHO is not in the middleweight business currently, but they are pragmatic, so that might be the way to go.

Both of us would like the Geale fight, but I'm afraid it's only wishful thinking on Pirog's part. Not that Geale's a ducker, far from it, but he's no world beater and there's money to be made off that belt domestically. And there's much smarter, high profile fights for him as well, Barker in London, for example.

The Man is the Man...don't need no belts. You give me a good idea though...a piece before the end of the year about "Make Contender" scraps that could be made might be interesting.

How bout this: Pirog defends his WBO title against WBO #1 ranked Andy Lee? HBO puts this fight on the undercard of one of their high profile fights or headline it on BAD. HBO seems to have taking a liking to Lee and has had him fight on two of their cards this year...

I think Pirog beats the **** out of Lee but I wouldn't write him off either. If Pirog goes and beats Lee in impressive fashion, it sets out a mega mw fight with Martinez.

I would. Lee ain't in Priog's league. Love the idea actually. I don't think it sets up a mega fight (nothing where Serg is the A side is a mega fight in this market), but it sets up a serious, real deal title fight. That's good enough.
