Williams, Cintron and Angulo are all in line for something, Pirog might be too much risk too little reward for these guys since they all want a big payday, so besides Sterm and Manfredo this fight should be considered. Martinez has been giving us quality match ups for awhile now i dont see why he should stop now. He knows who the up and comers are and what the fans think. Pirog is the one that we are all watching and if your not then you better pay attention. i know Martinez is aware, even if he doesnt care.Comment

No, those two guys won't, they are Manny fan's.He had the cojones to fight Paul Williams, who everyone avoided.. twice. Just because Pirog hasn't happened yet doesn't mean he doesn't have a set.
Bute is a super middleweight. Sergio just recently became middleweight champion coming from Jr middleweight all of his career.
Do you ever give credit where credit is due?
It doesn't work like that.Comment

Exactly. I am a Rold fan, but I think that Cliff is off the mark on this one.Sergio had to fight Kermit Cintron, Paul Williams, Kelly Pavlik, and Sergiy Dzinziruk to finally reach the point where he is at now.
He has earned the right to take an easy fight, and afterwards to take only the big money fights.
All Pirog has done is beat Danny Jacobs. Maybe he should step up his competition level so that he can become a more attractive option for Martinez dollar-wise.
Pirog is a green kid, he looks good, and could be excellent, who knows ?
The point is, why should he test the waters against the lineal middleweight champ, he should be looking for the Zbik / Lemieux / Williams', of the world.
He has beaten a green prospect, and..... some other guy.
Who the *** is Pirog ?

from a middleweight standpoint, sturm and pirog make sense. but from a money and recognition standpoint, 154 guys like kirkland and angulo make sense. the problem is, is that beyond the guys like you and me, no one knows who pirog or sturm (lets face it, 2004 was a lonnnng time ago) are.Williams, Cintron and Angulo are all in line for something, Pirog might be too much risk too little reward for these guys since they all want a big payday, so besides Sterm and Manfredo this fight should be considered. It's remarkable. Back in March, I'm thinking Pirog needs to get a stage to make himself the lead contender to Serg. year's almost over and nothing. Inertia in boxing sucks. This dude's management ain't doing him any favors.Exactly. I am a Rold fan, but I think that Cliff is off the mark on this one.

I know, the achievements of Barker, Lee and Macklin really left him in the dust.
What do you think they could have done better management wise? He's been matched pretty tough from the beginning, yet gets no credit for it. You think Sturm or JCC is willing to fight him? You think a "name" like Manfredo would rather get destroyed by Pirog on Espn2 for 10k, or fight a beatable JCC on HBO for 150k? Has Quillin ever shown any interest? Pete's called out Geale, and so has Pirog. I somehow suspect the no2 contender takes the Siaca/Adama route.
According to GMontoya HBO has little interest in showing Pirog. Why do you suppose that is, given that he's an exciting fighter who delivered the one time they brought him in (as a patsy, to be sure)? You think the big time promoters in the US are itching to sign a non-English speaking Russian with a mini mullet? DiBella is having a hard enough time marketing an dynamic, good looking, Spanish speaking champ.
I got a cracking idea. Unless Macklin is already lined up for Martinez, you should suggest DiBella matches Macklin with Pirog on the next Martinez undercard. LDB understandably thinks Pirog does not deserve to fight Martinez, so lets make this an eliminator. Macklin may have dodged Pirog once, but this time there's the WBO belt and an HBO date in play.Comment
