Pavlik was nowhere near a star at the time or ever, he still wasn't very well tested anyway after the Taylor fights.

Lockett in total control of that fight and was just playing when he went down to mock Kelly's featherfistedness. Its the ref's fault that he didn't get it, we need more intuitive refs.

lol @ pavlik being a bigger draw than RJJ in 2008.

The alcoholic wife beating ***** doesn't have ANYTHING on joe, i'm telling you it would have been a huge waste of a fight. At least RJJ still had K.O power. Anyways boxing is a business, RJJ was worth more than any other LHW at the time. Pavlik on joes legacy is like having omar sheika on your resume.

What made pavlik a p4p fighter? He got embarrassed many times in his career, bhop ran him over, the same bhop calzaghe made a fool of. Cmon I used to be a fan of the ghost, but to say calzaghe ducked him ( or anyone ) is bull****.

To be fair to Joe, he did all that with Lacy - who at the time was being touted as the "New Tyson".

The (common) mistake here is in ranking mass opinion above that of people who actually know something about boxing. Pavlik may well have been rated miles higher than Jones by the herd but the reality was that the gap was a lot closer. Indeed, Jones probably stood a better chance of beating Calzaghe.

You guys also have to remember this was roy jones coming off a win over tito trinidad, people were saying jones was "back" and ready to claim another title. RJJ thought his losing days were over and he had recovered. Sadly he was wrong.
