It was a terrible fight, for sure. But it wasn't conclusive. And from a historical perspective, the first fight - and any second fight - would have merit.

what weight would this fight have been at? kelly wouldnt want non of calz at light heavy. he went over the states to fight well known names, not middleweight unproven bums.

Probably same as the Hopkins fight, a 170 catchweight. JC was, what, one fight removed from SMW?

it was his last fight and he decided to take the fight that made the most money

calzaghe would have humiliated pavlik anyway, he was a really really skillfull boxer

Calzaghe ducked him and went after Jones Jr.

Almost everybody wanted to see Calzaghe-Pavlik. But Calzaghe, the coward, went after Jones Jr.

I bet you werent saying this around the time of the fight possibly takin place......truth is Calzaghe just wanted to have Roy Jones on his resume so that in 20 years he could tell everyone..."oh look, I beat Roy Jones.."...because the money involved in him fighting Jones would not have been a lot higher than the money he would have received for facing Pavlik...who was a rising star at the time...

Calzaghe was at the end of a successful, but not lucrative career. He had the choice of fighting an up-and-coming fighter with modest star attraction or a shot fighter with plenty.

I think it's obvious Joe would have thrashed Pavlik. If so he would have gained very little in terms of reputation and not a lot of money. With Jones he could have both.

But to all those criticizing Joe for taking on an easybeat - let's not forget that Jones had him on the canvas in the first. Which is more success than Pavlik could have hoped to achieve.
