Revisionist history. When Calzaghe retired, SMW was still dead.

They made the Super Six because of his retirement.

          undefeated froch
          undefeated bute
          undefeated dirrell
          undefeated ward
          undefeated abraham

doesn't look so dead to me. calzaghe never had quality fighters like this in his division. 175 was just as scary. the hopkins rematch which he ducked, chad dawson who he wanted no part of and guys like glen johnson and jean pascal.

Calzaghe said in the last week he did not know who Froch, the new WBC super-middleweight champion, was — but he has done some research in the meantime. "Yeah, I Googled him," he said. "I've seen him but the guy doesn't mean anything. The guy don't mean ****. The guy he fought the other day [Jean Pascal], he didn't look any good.

"For me I think that's an easy fight, I'd knock him out inside four rounds because he's slow… The Americans won't pay one penny for him, they're not interested in him. I'm sorry, but that's the way it is."

the americans won't pay one penny for him that's why showtime keeps giving him million dollar paydays? real sharp boxing knowledge joe!

Unknown unproved would be better adjectives. There was no incentive for him to postpone his retirement for any of those people.

The only fight was potentially Chad Dawson. The rest is just revisionist history

Even right now what the hell has Bute accomplished? Now imagine back then. Anyway Calzaghe would have outclassed Bute.

Froch was fighting Robin Reid at the time Joe retired. No one knew who Dirrell and Ward were. Abraham was fighting at MW.

But Daggum will spin it like Joe was mandated to fight them all.

why is calzaghe trying to insult our intelligence? does he know we saw the fight?
He was fighting on foreign soil... You never know what to expect if it goes to the cards...

But yeah Calzaghe beat the **** out of Hopkins... Watching that fight still makes me smile

All the super six fighters were unknowns basically.

Taylor was the only big name.

O and Kessler but joe beat him already
