i'll say the guy landing all the clean punches won. everyone can interpret that in their own way and be happy. calzaghe fans can look at compubox and see calzaghe landed more and hopkins fans can watch the fight and see hopkins landed more.

Well according to the stunted logic of most people on here, If a fight didnt happen, someone ducked the other.
You also say that he retired because all these good fighters were coming up. Maybe it was that he was 37 years of age.

the right time would have been before hopkins where the truth came out and he looked like the amateur fighter that he is.

he didn't care about being a great fighter he just wanted to fool people into believing he was a great fighter. he wasted ten years of his career then gambled with a couple tough fights to shortcut his way to greatness. when a bunch of dangerous guys were out there he packed it in and relied on him being undefeated as opposed to having a great resume as the main reason he was great. he said it himself the only reason he retired is out of fear of losing. a great fighter doesn't think that way. a ducker does though. obviously perceptive fans would see he is a sham but some were fooled so mission accomplished.

as a Bute fan, I would say that Calzaghe could not really have ducked Bute

Calzaghe beat the best in his division at the time, became undisputed and went up to challenge the best LHW, Hopkins

              best thing to do really

Meanwhile, Bute grabbed the IBF title that Calzaghe had won (then vacated) by mopping the floor with Lacy

timing was not in favor of Calzaghe-Bute happening

Fantastic post could not have said it any better, besides his early career you can say the same about Roy JONES.
